I heard some nice clips on YT with these microphones, but I still wonder are they worth buying?
I especially am interested in what the PR-40 can do and if there are other mics in its price range that you would recommend.

I'm mainly buying these mics to experiment some more, the PR-20 for close micing, the PR-40 maybe for double micing with an sm57 close and the PR-40 further away for clean/crunchy tones.

Thoughts?

The PR40 and the PR20 sound good on guitars, but the PR30 would be my pick. It's pretty perfect for guitar cabs and sounds great on lots of things.

I have owned all three and would definitely start with the PR30, and then the PR40. The PR20 is nice but it can be a little thuddy sounding, I'd rather roll with a 57, Audix i5, or Telefunken M80/M81 if you're looking for a traditional hand-held style mic.

Oh, I didn't know that.

You guys have any good PR-30 clips (PR-30 only, high gain stuff?)

Looks like it could be the one I buy.
Other suggestions always welcome ofcourse.

Yes, thanks.
I PM'ed him to ask if he could do a SM57 vs PR-30 comparison. (he owns a PR-30 too)
Let's see what happens.

Anyway, that PR-20 tone is really cool too.

I like the PR-20 a lot for blending with a 57. I choose this combo when I want the fattest tone possible while still being tight enough for the mix. When blended with the 57, I find that the "tube sag" of the amp gets brought out a bit more.

Here is a recent reamp I did with 57 and PR-20 blended:

Not to plug myself, but pluggidy plug plug.

Thank you for posting guys.
All clips sound nice!

I think I'll go for the PR-30, I'd love to buy a PR-20 too, but it's currently sold out in the shop where I buy it.

I was actually listening to this from the thread you started
Sounds really nice!

I ordered a PR-30 yesterday so I should get it next week. I really would like to have the PR-20 too, but they are sold out in that shop...
