Heirs to the DT throne?

Uber Metal
Today, I stand before you as a humble and grateful DT fan. My world changed in 1992. So did the music scene. SO many bands since then and now more than ever can we wonder what Prog Metal would be without DT to save us from Grunge....and Madonna. Oh and that guy with baggy pants, but..anyhoo.

I present my nomination, with more respect than humanly possible... for the heir apparent.... Lost In Thought :worship:

Haken :worship:

Although in terms of comparison...Haken is way crazier than DT by a long shot in my personal opinion. I'd have to say Lost in Thought is closer to DT therefore being a true heir to the DT Throne.

Besides, Haken has earned their right to have their own throne without being anyone's heir.

I think the mext "DT" has to be an innovative, boundary-crossing, inventive band that leaves a lot of people speechless, and will stand the test of time. Not really a description for a DT-sounding band these days.

That said, my choice of next leader in the genre is LEPROUS.

At one time I thought this band would be the next DT, but then Oliver Hartmann left the band.

Thank goodness he left as I felt they were terrible with him. They put out two amazing albums with their original singer and then decided to bring Oliver in, who I think is a good singer, but clearly did not fit into Empty Tremor's music. I'm glad they came to their sense and brought back Gio as the the latest is a breath of fresh air! Check this out; amazing!

I used to think Mindflow would take this title one day. Then their second album, Mind Over Body, came out, and I reconsidered... Then their third album, Destructive Device, came out, and I laughed, cried, and went back to the first two albums and tried to forget they're still together like post-Mindcrime Queensryche or post-Colony In Flames.

Just now getting into Haken (wish I could've stayed past the two kick-off events of last year's PP!) and I'll have to check out some of these other bands as well...

Wasn't "When Dream & Day Unite" released in 1989? That is when everything changed. ;) hahaha. Images & Words is good, but it's no WDADU. yes, I just hijacked this thread into a which DT album is best. hahaha.

This is the truth, folks. Right here.

Although.... Gotta throw our hat in there...

US!!!

Listening to the album right now, finally. Sounds awesome! I'm happy for you guys. I never actually got a copy of And Go. Pete went to get me one once, and it was a copy of "Strummin' With the Devil" with a Mellotron label on it. I'll be buying recurring themes though.

I like Lost in Thought a lot, but Hourglass's Oblivious to the Obvious is probably my favorite album of the last 5 years. They would get my vote. I believe that Brick is working on a new album. Can't wait.

I can tell you who was...and then blew it.

Pain of Salvation.

God, that is so true... I've been in a big PoS kick lately, and it's still hard to believe what they did to themselves with the Road Salts... :(

I wish you'd bring them back under one condition... Nothing off of those albums.

Great thread. I love "Oblivious", but I want to hear more from the band. Lost in Thought is outstanding, but Haken gets my vote. Since I just picked up Imminent Sonic Destruction, I don't have enough listens under my belt.
