hellfire club not good.

I think it's ok, nothing spectacular, not their best album, still I like a few songs, especially the awesome "Mysterya" and "The Piper Never Dies".
And yeah their ballads are terrible... as always with Edguy :D

I was new to Edguy and decided to finally take a listen to them and heard hellfire club. I think it is horrible, way too cheesy. The track mysteria is pretty good, but I couldn't find another track I liked.

I'm not too motivated to check out their older stuff after that!

What I liked about the band? It's a change of pace, like the reason I dig some blues stuff, like the reason I like rock stuff, ect. I'm not happy being a one trick pony. You can listen to gloom & doom, but I don't want it to be my life...
There's some stinkers on Hellfire, but there's more good than bad on there, in my opinion...

After seeing every one posting about how great it was I downloaded a copy to check out.... glad I didn't buy it. Nothing special to my ears.

Sayer I could have told you that YOU wouldn't have liked that disc, you're into one particular type of metal, agressive, abrassive kind of stuff. From what I have seen mainly thrash & stuff like that. What possessed you to buy it?!
If I'm not mistaken he also likes Angra and things like that ;) (see the guuitar solo thread)

Sometimes what I dislike now I'll try later and like. I'll try Edguy again!
When I first heard Sodom I hated them. Well I like um now! :)

That happens to me some times also, may be in the wrong mood/state of mind the first time you hear something. Plus I'm getting a little burnt out on the newer stuff, it's all starting to sound the same to me, so I've been diving even deeper into the 80's metal. Two months from now I'll be itching to hear some new bands..... it goes in cycles for me.

Yes! :) I'm glad someone else is like that. I'm that way with movies also.
I just got a bigger hard drive so I have just about all my music on my computer now. I like listening while I'm on the net. I find I play my albums much more than if I have to fiddle with a cd player that happens to be in another room. I'm enjoying the ones I have for right now :)

Hellfire Club is actually my favorite album of the year so far. Edguy to me is a great heavy metal band who like to have fun. The album has some killer stuff like "Mysteria", "King Of Fools", and "Navigator". Sure the ballads are a bit cheesy but what else do you expect from a good ol power metal band. Also the Sayer you say its too heavy to be prog. Edguy isn't meant to be prog and has always been a straight foward power metal band. I think they are one of the best fresh bands to emerge in the 90's and be playing strong today. I feel Edguy along with the likes of Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Hammerfall etc. will be the bands that are the future of heavy metal and the next generation of Iron Maiden's, Saxon's, Judas Priest's and Dio's.

I do that too..... everyone here has seen me jump up and down and scream about Tad Morose, but I have had a copy of "Matters of the Dark" for over a year that a friend sent me. I spun it once and it never hit me. It sat around for a year or so and when the Prog Power V lineup was announced, I decided to give them another try. As much as I love them now, I was wondering if some aliens had invaded my brain or something the first time I heard them.
The same thing happened with Yngwie many moons ago. I bought his first self titled Rising Force release and I just didn't "get it" and I gave it to a friend of mine. Six months later he was playing it, and my jaw dropped after listening to it.
