This band is such a great band, but they seem to be very underrated on this board. Is it just me? I mean, they are a great fucking power metal band.

Based purely on Keeper pt 1 not really. It's solid, but not that great. Beastly solos. But generally just silly. And you realize of course that it was a big influence on European power metal, which is the most widely hated genre of true metal on this board.

I didn't really like it. It sounded overproduced, and some of the songs just didn't click I guess. I really enjoy the Helloween EP and Walls of Jericho thought, great stuff.

I like KotSK Pts. 1 and 2, but I ignore the band otherwise. Kai Hansen's voice is grating and everything past those albums bores me.

I like them quite a lot. Prefer some Gamma Ray albums to some Helloween albums. On the other hand I like Europe.

The Dark Ride must be one of the most underrated power metal albums, seriously give it a try if you haven't heard it.

All of the Kai-fronted material is awesome. Most of Keepers 1 is pretty damn good, especially the epic. Keepers 2 is not quite as good. The early Deris albums had a few good songs as well, with Time of the Oath probably being the best.

Euro flower metal is not exactly "true metal".

Here's where I get confused: I don't see how all European power metal is "flowery." For example, Hammerfall's Crimson Thunder lacks the really cheesy keyboards that to me denote "flower" metal. To me there's really flowery power metal and then there's just straight up European power metal, which is definitely softer than American stuff but not ridiculously fruity.

Also, true metal is a pretty vague term but I would say that flower metal falls within it's boundaries since it draws it's influence from metal and promotes the true metal ideals of fighting dragons with magic swords.
