Ok !! this is our old demo I been trying to fix (FOR YEARS) that my old band recorded with this cat (Neil Burkdoll)
come to find out he is in a signed band in california... hahaha

im not bashing him at all but he butchered demos of local bands with that shitty protools kic sample and high-end guitars....I been wanting to fix this bass drum sample for years since we recorded back in 2000 (or something like that)
From that day foward--I knew i could do better and started my own recording studio..he gave us a lot of "there i nothing i can do" crap

oh listen to this one..the overheads ARE BLEED FROM THE TOM MICS

YEA!!of course he woulnt gate em! NO??? We would have to pay for that.. lol

Just listen.. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7107598
any advice to fix this AT ALL is good and i left it up for download if you feel lucky
Here is the guy http://www.myspace.com/fatalist666

(scroll down--watch the youtube clip.. hes the guy to the left)

THANK YOU

go ahead abd bash away at that ignorant mother fucker, i hate most AE's, either they know their shit and are arrogant, or they shouldn't be legally allowed to be in a studio because they suck so much and they are arrogant. this guy is the latter.

i have been home recording for the past 3 or so years and even that sounds horrible even for my equipment which is a grand total of $200.

i hate to say it but he ruined the whole thing, you need to redo everything from scratch, you can't polish a turd, so don;t put the effort in polishing it.

Yeah man, not sure there is much you can do.. I imagine if you were looking at trying you might want to do something like try bring up the kicks with multiband and transient shapers, and run that through some sort of replacement prog, then run this alongside the original - however this would also bring up other peaks like snare, etc.. but I dunno, not really anything else you could do unless you can get your hands on the original PT session..

Yea i know that there is pretty much nothing i can do... he even went to a 24 hour recording school
i know i know i tried opening up a midi track and doing all the bass drum hits by hand
that helped but very very time consuming
actually i used to have a mix coy and i feel like an asshole for losing it
BASH AWAY KEEP THE COMMENTS COMING

To be fair, did you have a listen to any of his stuff before you went to record with him? If you'd done that then you would have realised it was shit and could have gone with someone else.

Fair enough the demo does sound like crap, but as you said you know you can do better and have started you're own studio, so re-record it yourself. It makes no sense to me that you're trying to fix a terrible mix for years when you could just start from scratch and it'll sound way better.

this production is fucked up!!!!!dont waste your time with that. The kick sound is the best of it. The guitars sound so terrible I have pain in my ears right now.

There is no mighty CSI tool that helps you to select one audio track part for part.this is like around 20-20.000hz
You can play with an Eq to change the sound. You can use a gate to cut out noise in breaks...but there is nothing to fix it.

SHIT IN SHIT OUT.

Ands thats not about the song or your band. For 2000 this is some kind of "visionary" metalcore;)
The recording is so bad that you cant do any good with it

sorry

My 2 cents.. with threads like this it's pretty hard to choose a side, i mean sure.. that demo could have been better, but we don't know how it was recorded and maybe there are only so many things he can fix.
If there is one thing i have learned the past years.. can't polish a turd, bla bla.. standard stuff, but true.

So im not sure who's side to pick here, i only hear one side of the story now.. you post his name, his myspace site, let us know who you are talking about in that video, but if you listen to his stuff he is into that kind of sound.. entombed like, fizzy guitars, etc.. did you not listen to his stuff before letting him mix the demo doclegion?

Enough of that.. look forward, re-record everything yourself and mix/master it yourself.. a project yes, but there is no way you can fix that demo without having access to the seperate recorded files.. move on dude, im sure it will sound fine when you do it yourself.

Oh yea i should redo it alone hahaha
should've thought of that, but as far as checking him out?we were new to recording with a low budget
Now if i was there now watchin, i would probably be going WHAT THE FUCK R YOU DOING!!! LOLOLOL
Even at the time we were all going are you sure that sounds ok?? OH YEA
That kick sample I was like are you kidding???? My tapes were way better thats when i found out that i had a
nitch for sounds N shit....
I knew i really couldnt fix much just thought to ask

Hey, this is the "SOB" that recorded this shitass band. You can go ahead and bash my recording all day long, but you didn't have to try and record this band that had no experience at all. They had shit equipment and could barely play thier instruments. Not only that, but I recorded them twice because they told me "I was the man," so if they thought I was so bad, then why did they come back? Also, These were some of the most ignorant mother fuckers I had ever met. They couldn't play their instruments at all, but thought they were gonna be bigger than slayer or exodus. These are actual facts. They would tell me how awesome they were and then go and help themselves to my fridge without even asking for anything. Heres the real deal. Those are not triggered Kick Drums. His playing was so inconsistant that I couldn't even trigger them. You can hear that there is 2 different tones to the kick drums if you actually listen. I had to mic them and do the best I could with his out of tune kick drums. They didn't know how to tune their drums, or get set ups on their guitars, so no they weren't in tune at all. If you don't want a high end guitar sound, then don't go to a studio with a $100 solid state amplifier and then expect it to sound like an album that was recorded on a Neve or SSL. I charged you $10 per hour because thats what you guys were gonna get for your recording. There was no point to trying to get good tones because you wouldnt have known what a good tone even was. And you never told me shit about what you thought sounded good or bad. Shit in does equal shit out. I wanted you out of my house as soon as I could because I couldn't deal with your childish shit. If you remember, I was also recording a 15 your drummer at the time that blew you away. He could play circles around you on a drumset that was older than him. Do you know why it sounded good? Because he knew how to hit the drums. You were so envious of him that you actually talked shit about a 15 year old kid who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. If you knew how to record anything worth a shit, then you would know you can't replace a kick drum on a cd. What kind of bullshit question is that? If you are so fucking good, then why are you worrying about some 8-9 year old recording you did in a garage? Get over it and rerecord the shitty songs. You want an awesome recording, go to a real studio and don't bug a guy who couldn't stand you and did you a favor. Get over it. I can't even believe I lowered myself to even type something in response to this thread...
