To be completely honest, I think the demo sounds pretty good. I listen to stuff with way worse production on a daily basis.

P.S. The guitars sound nothing like "Entombed fizz" and the kick drum sample is punchy as hell :)

No not at all. It's not terrible. How much did you pay total? This was in 2000?

Maybe it's just that I'm used to listening to poorly produced stuff. I don't sit around listening to Arch Enemy and Opeth albums all day :P

If i can remember correctly around 7-800 bucks
2000?? sometime that year
he knew it wasnt any good and we called him on an eq at home lowering frequinces here and there and said "hey man lower these and lower that" so i dont even wanna read that non sense response he gave me.
Young yes!! and does it sound out of tune?? didnt think so

For that kind of money "NOBODY TOUCHES THAT GODDAMN METALZONE AGAIN YOU FUCKER OR I WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND PAPERCUT THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF YOU AND YOUR PUSSYASS SOUL UNTIL IT GIVES ME ETERNAL HEAD".

Q: Who actually decided to let the metal zone be used?

I still haven't figured out who is responsible for this, but if I were in either party's shoes, I would definitely not let this see the light of day.

I think it could be the bands fault....

They spent 800.00 at a place that was charging 10.00 an hour :erk:

They did not do there homework and pick a decent studio and are gonna complain about the results at a 10.00 an hour studio. Thats what you get for being cheap.

They used a metal zone.

The playing sounds pretty sloppy. :Smug:

Ive worked with 16 year old and most think they know everything. They have a tone and they think its the greatest thing since Dimebag or Eddie. They want the mix this and that way. Ive done everything they ask and end up with a mix that sounds like complete shit. Then years later there gonna realize it sounds like shit and then blame the engineer just like this, even when they made all those choices and played like shit and did not listen to the engineer in the first place!

I could be wrong though.....

Yup. We've had bands walk in with shitty Behringer combos, pull faces at the sounds we get from Engl, Mesa, Peavey & Diezel heads and still wanna use their peice of shit bedroom special because they think it contains "their sound". We have a general "no Behringer amps whatsofuckingever" though. We let the Bugera slide, but thats as much leeway as we allow for that crap.

Totally.

I'm not wading into the thread in regards to the OP and his problem, but I gotta say that when guys are young - sometimes they forget who's the engineer and who's the player.

But, hey - everyone's got an opinion.

I think it was pretty lame of the TS to post the guys myspace. I mean, ok if you just want to rant about a bad recording experience, but that's getting a bit to personal. And I would have responded in pretty much the same way as he did. Call it "unproffessional" if you will but anyone bad-mouthing me (as an AE or otherwise) better be ready to get their ass handed to them.

However, I have nothing to say in regards to who is right or wrong, since it's impossible for anyone who wasn't there to have some actual input. But I would say that it's pretty weird to still be complaining about a demo recording done 8 years ago. In half that time you could have saved up enough money to re-record it with Mr. Sneap dammit!

Pardon my bitterness/cynism but i get irritated by people talking about "their sound". Unless you have gear custom built to your specifications it's hardly your sound.

Pretty much our attitude as well. If your name is "Jimi Hendrix" then talk to me about "your sound" otherwise, shut up and let us get the best sound for the songs.
