What strings do you use?
Flatwound, Roundwound, Tapewound??

and what brand?

im new to fretless bass
and i put Addario Chromes on mine
just because im not sure what a good string set might be

i have a 5 string that i built myself
would you suggest putting poly urethane on my finger board, like a hard coat on it?

Thanks alot
Just saying you made me want to play fretless. haha

Fretless is another word for freedom!

Better to use epoxy. Check in at talkbass.com and go to luthiers corner. In the stickies you'll find lots of info.

I also always recommend people try out TI Jazz Flats, they make 4/5/6 string sets and you will be amazed that flats can sound like that.

Jazz Flats are very smooth. The only strings that would cause less fingerboard wear would be tape-wounds. But the reason I always recommend TI Jazz Flats is they really sound amazing, have great bite when you dig in, no finger noise, no finger friction (faster moving up and down the neck), easier on your right hand fingers as well, and no fingerboard wear.

Of course your technique also makes a difference. Generally, we don't bend strings sideways on a fretless, but the habit may be hard to break :p
