i got hired! teaching 9th-grade english at a high school in chinatown! the best thing is that the school just started last year so there are ONLY 9th- and 10th-graders, and last year's 9th-grade english teacher moved up with her students to 10th grade, so i think over the next few years i could do something similar--follow my students up through the years (amazing) or pick 11th- or 12-grade later if i want!

i was reading on another forum how american schools today are pushing the "gay agenda" to kids as young as 6, and was thinking that in a school where you follow your students for several years, lots of things on said agenda could easily be put in place, following an almost natural pace instead of being shoved down young impressionable throats.

arabic, chinese, what's the difference? there are really in essence only four languages: english, spanish (retarded english), french (fag english) and scribblish. arabic and chinese are both just dialects of the latter.

also the funny thing is--I seriously think I got the job because of Nabokov. one of the interviewers--the existing English teacher, a woman around my age--pointed at my e-mail domain (waxwingslain.com) on my resume and said, "That's from Nabokov, eh?". I honestly did not feel I did super-well in the rest of the interview--I came out of it wishing I'd said so much more about various questions they'd asked--and there were a bunch of other people who interviewed for the position. The only thing I can think that might have made them choose me over the others is that the English teacher might have remembered the Nabokov thing and been like "Yeah, let's give him a shot."
