because i started hearing metal only about an year ago(im 13) i still dont know as many bands as i want to, so can you recommend me for a bands? and if you can they best albums in your opinion? (all styles except NU Metal)

Some good metal bands:

Akercocke
Enslaved
Madder Mortem
Abigor
At the Gates
Burst
Dissection
Emperor
Gorgoroth
Katatonia
Mastodon
Sigh
Wolves in the Throne room
Cynic
Gorguts

the only ones i really listen to anymore. Most of those artists have fantasic back-catalogues and replay value.
edit: oh and of course opeth but you already know that one

that really depends on your musical taste... what genres of metal do you like? or what bands?

13 years old. this is the time in your life where you're suppose to love nu-metal then regret it in a few years.

if not, then heres a couple bands

enslaved
borknagar
isis
pelican
cult of luna

I think the ones mentioned so far are pretty decent recommendations, besides "Wolves in the Throne Room" who I've never even heard of. Don't swamp the poor kid with 300 more imo :D

My favourite metal bands (besides Opeth):
-Wintersun
-Ensiferum
-Symphony X
-And the most of others have already been mentioned... I could check out the one's I haven't heard yet too...

:notworthy

Yeah.. Check out the link I aint play this put up.

Don't just limit yourself to metal either. Well, i remember when i was 13 i wasn't into loads of music.. But yeah, as you get older, you start realising that you don't have to just like metal.

These 3 bands/artists are 3 of my favourites, and not even metal (for the most part).

Ulver (used to be metal, now avant-garde/electronic)
Akira Yamaoka (the guy who does the silent hill soundtracks - all sorts of styles)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor (post rock legends).

I suggest going for some good ol´ Black Sabbath,Mercyful Fate,Metallica,Judas Priest etc. Never bad to start with the pioneers

Sure isn't.

And I agree with Opeth_353 that no-one should limit the music just to metal.

If I feel like listening to something else, I can go with something like Porcupine Tree or Mostly Autumn... Or just pop in Damnation

Bwahahah! Dreadlooooooocksss!!! Yeah, that was me. I was in love with Korn and Linkin Park and the rest.

My first "non-nu" metal band was Soulfly. Although a lot of people say that they are nu-metal, that's a load of horse shit in my opinion. They're the band that really showed me how to appreciate guitar driven music, as well as harsh vocals.

Anyways, I think that we all have our own ways of eventually getting to the "good music". You can't just give someone a list of good bands, they usually have to find them on their own. My suggestion is to look around wikipedia (that's how I find a lot of my bands). Find a band you like, look at what genre they're in, read up, and check out the related bands.

Isis does kill however. You can't go wrong with Isis.

For some reason that song "Bleed" with the fred durst guest appearance had gotten stuck in my head today, and as soon as it left I had to read this which has set it off all over again :(

Opeth: Drapery Falls, Bleak, When
Iron Maiden:Flight of Icarus, Phantom of the Opera, Aces High

nu-metal is soooo 90's :yuk:

emo is the way to go for teenagers these days.

i listend to Nu Metal when I was 11 but I stoped when I was 12. And i hate EMO before i knew what metal is, it always sounded to be like some crying babys with no talent.

and thank you all, even that i know most of the bands, you still gave me some new.
