I like it. But the production and stuff... the wah wah pedal... the main guitar lead that sounds like Mogwai... and it's uncanny resemblence to BMD at times... It's kinda for me now.

I get the feeling, on second listen, that I would love this if it wasn't Agalloch. I almost forget who I'm listening to. Just not really what I expected...

i don't hate it at all, not even close. i mean i realize that there is no sense in trying to recapture what they had on pale folklore, and as a total agalloch fanboy of course i'm going to give this as many chances as it needs... i'm kinda breathing a sigh of relief here that they didn't wholly abandon metal, for starters... 'cause that really wouldn't have been a long shot

The outside influences are all there (I think you could almost compare this to something off Amorphis - "Elegy"), but they've kept a similar songwriting style. "The Mantle" did nothing for me the first year I owned it.

I DO like that guitar part around the 3 minute mark... definitely a post-rock feel to it.
