Yep, everyone can have an opinion. That said, not all of them are worth respecting.
Not quite, but the meaning was imparted nonetheless.
Perhaps when compared to the limited sphere of Arch Enemy's own back catalogue the record stands up quite well, but that's a narrow way to look at it. Given the genre, it's banal. Given musical endeavour in general it's absolutely throwaway.
so why even bother? go listen to Black Earth, Colony, The Gallery, Steelbath Suicide, Terminal Spirit Disease, Swamplord, Hatebreeder etc. instead of some shitty new watered down version!and sure, it's banal. there's nothing new here...but name one recent scandanavian melodeath album that is anything new or groundbreaking? all of it sounds the same
There's a new song (from a live show) on Youtube. If the rest of the album is even a third as good, it will be an unbelievable albumHey, if Cynic's new CD is anywhere near as good as Focus, then maybe it can kickstart the genre. Doubt it though.
god damn it i gotta edit this fuckin thing
the first 3 or 4 ae albums destroy this record.....the point though, is that this record is better than their last TWO. thats it. and sure, it's banal. there's nothing new here...but name one recent scandanavian melodeath album that is anything new or groundbreaking? all of it sounds the same... its just a matter of who can write the best riffs pretty much. maybe the new dimension zero will be something refreshing if they have their asses on straight this time around. kalmah's last release, while strong, was nowhere near swampsong or they will return.....
and what the hell do you impose by saying it's a throwaway album given musical endeavour in general? are you trying to say they didnt try hard enough while writing the record? could u have tried harder? these are some of the most dynamic ae songs ive heard in a while!
Hey, if Cynic's new CD is anywhere near as good as Focus, then maybe it can kickstart the genre. Doubt it though.
Can you define for me in the name of this, "arse" that so many Scots are keen to throw at me from boards all around, what Cynic is then, Incarnated-Solvent-Abuse?
Of course some would whine about it, but Arch Enemy has been successful since Wages of Sin and most people (except the Angela haters) seem to be fine with it or even *gasp* think it's a good album.
The truth is, some bands cave to the pressure of numbers when they become popular and change their sound accordingly. There's nothing wrong with it, it's called capitalism. But the music will inevitably suffer when too much creative control is given to those not in the band.
