holy shit, how to recreate "smack my bitch up" from scratch

Bear in mind some of the methods used in the video weren't necessarily used back then. Liam would not have timestretched anything for instance.

i prefer this version ;)

but bulls on parade in there?? mental

well, no.. certainly not the way we can do it now by just grabbing an audio region with a mouse and visually stretching it at will while listening to the results... but yes, you could definitely time stretch back then, as the original track shows.

it's really amazing how well this guy recreated this track... i just downloaded this new version and A/B'ed against the original.... damned good job.

i played a fest in Denmark (Roskilde) with Konkhra in the '90's, and The Prodigy were playing as well and i got to meet them in the backstage areas... interesting guys (i met Helena Christiansen that night too and she was actually really nice and took some pics with me... she smoked like a chimney though).

I notice you guys aint that used to oldschool samplers? ;)
Timestretching etc. is no problem on the Akai S-3000 for instance.
And in fact, its kind of similar creating something like this on a sampler as it is to do it on a daw.. the difference is that in the sampler you have to turn a wheel to move your marker and go through a bunch of menus to cut/paste/move/stretch etc.

But yeah, definitely impressive that this was made back then.

yes... i briefly owned an S-3000 back then.. and i still own the Kurzweil K2000S i had back then..... and as i said... yes, you could time-stretch back then... just not the way you do it now.

This is already very impressive, but when I think about what Aphex Twin and Squarepusher did around the same time... mind blowing!

I dunno whats more impressive though. The fact that all that shit was done the original way or the fact that this guy took the time to figure out how to emulate the song almost perfectly.
