How did they lose their steam???

Thats true, they werent ever as heavy as other bands around at that time....... Well, maybe they were, I dont really know..... Anyway, Number Of The Beast is pretty heavy, BNW isnt, but its still good. So whatever, its all good I guess. If you like it anyway.

Steve Harris doesn't want Maiden to sound heavy. He has stated this in many interviews that he couldn't see Maiden following the direction in terms of sound that Bruce took with The Chemical Wedding.

To me, this is bullshit. Testament is heavy. Nevermore is heavy. The Chemical Wedding 'is' Maiden with an up-to-date sound.

I tend to agree somewhat. Maiden is a heavy band generally speaking and always have been, but are nowhere near as heavy as alot of metal bands. Maiden have always been able to do great rock songs which i guess is what has aloud them to have a chunk of their audience to be non-metal fans.

Ive never heard Steve Harris say he didnt want Maiden to sound Heavy, but i do know he didnt really like Chemical Wedding. He did think Accident Of Birth was great. Even Accident Of Birth as a mostly trad metal sound/style is way heavier than anything Maiden have done since the 80's.

I'd never expect to see maiden start de-tuning their guitars a great deal, and i like the progressive stuff they do but their guitars have never sounded 'heavy' since Seventh Son. Its almost like they've gone forward with their songwriting, but have gone backwards with the sound/prouction values. And that to me is something that bewilders me.

Accident Of Birth blows away anything Maiden has done in the past 12 years!

... And The Chemical Wedding is better than that!!

:OMG:

I think it's the first time I've actually admitted it, because usually I stand up for Fear Of The Dark and The X Factor. :s
But I just cannot bring myself to do that anymore.. Bruce is the man!

I should note that right now (today), I'd also add that I feel the same way about Silicon Messiah and Tenth Dimension. :)
And when I say 12 years, I am including BNW and all live albums from that period.

Oh yeah!
With those two albums he has basically said 'So you didn't like X Factor or Virtual XI? Well don't blame me, 'cos lookhow good I can be!"

Yet, it will always be easier for some people to blame and therefore hate Blaze for Maiden's 'demise'. :(

Blaze rocks, he has proven himself twice over

Maiden dont need to be heavier, they NEED good production, if they record the guitars right,t hey wouldnt have to be heavier songwriting wise.

Ive never really had a problem with Blaze on record, the reason he was kicked out of the band to my knowledge was his voice couldnt hold it together live.

As far as the studio albums Maiden have done 90-98.....they were all ruined by sub-par production thanks to Steve Harris' input.
