I know most of us here trigger the crap out of our kicks, and I'm no exception. But when we want to mic up a kick, either to capture a sample, to blend in with a triggered sound, or to leave on its own, how do you usually mic 'em up, and with what?

Generally speaking, I'll put a Sennheiser e602 inside the drum, pointing directly at the beater, a few inches back from the batter head, and I'll stick a mic out front. Usually a condenser of some sort, probably my Shure KSM 27, pointed at the kick, the distance determined by the sound in the room. I'd like to experiment with micing the batter side at some point next time I have a project to work on.

So how do you do it?
