HOW GREAT IS OSX!!!!!!

About as great as organised religion.

Fascist opinion aside, I don't see how that benefits you more than daisy-chaining interfaces together. But there may well be something everyone else knows that I don't.
I'm still using a piece of shit 2 channel USB interface. some stonage shit to be fair haha

Man I can use my onyx 1640 firewire and my m-audio fast track pro together.
This means I have not only output 1-2. I´m going to have output 1-2 and 3-4.

This means I can send output 1-2 to Hardware and rerecord it. And dont have to disconnect my speakers.

Or I can reamp.

This is great!!!!

Maybe this works with protools LE too?
I never was interested in protools because I would only have 2 inputs with the Fasttrack pro (m-audio)

yea, it's coreaudio just showing off. it's ultra fast, so most audio apps don't use anything else. coreaudio shows all available inputs from all devices, so you're only really using 1 driver. you could do this in windows i guess, with that asio4all driver.. but it wouldn't be anywhere near as fast.

of course, cubase doesn't use coreaudio (grr), it uses it's own drivers, namely ASIO. then you're back to the same problem you have in windows. you'll only get your ins and outs from 1 device.

pro-tools? i'm not sureee.. try it and see? :p

OS X isn't it's all it's cracked up to be too. plugins run a bit slower, a lot of free ones are PPC only - they'll still work on an intel mac, but get run in rosetta, which trust me, is NOT my idea of fun (or fast). and it's for these reasons i'm doing my next set of recordings in windows.

thanks,

ok intresting to hear.

I dont use freeware stuff anymore after switching to mac.
There was only on free vsti out which I realy miss.
It was a grand piano where you can control the sustain.

No freeware comp, reverb, eq....worked for me.
the kjdfhdfdseus classics bundle was ok. For free great, but now I have much better plugins.
And they work perfectly on the intel mac. The only new thing that didnt work perfect round is the SSD 3.0 but Steve told, that all this problems are gone with the near update.

that's cool it's all working for you! hehe.

well, i don't know what the learning curve is like on logic, but if it's like the rest of apple's stuff, it'll be easy to get a hold of.

i guess, at the end of the day, it's what works for you! i don't want to have to go back to windows.. :(

THEN DONT DO IT, It´s like falling back and start drinkin´ again:) You know its bad, but you´re doin´it?
Also there are nice free ones out there for intel-based macs. Not that much, nothing CRACKED, put free stuff (good stuff)

yea, there are a lot of free au's for mac, but cubase doesn't support them.. decent free vsts are hard to come by, for OS X.

this windows install will be clean - no crapware, games, or anything like that, just pure recording stuff!

haha.

logic feels completely ass backwards to me, but hey, thats just me.
despite the DAW's name, it doesn't feel all that logical :erk:

i tried to merge my motu with my 002 last year, but the 002 dont apear in the agregate list....if there is any workaround, i would be happy :)

wont be bad, to have 20 inputs instead of 8 in PT8.

right now i always record in logic with my Motu HD192, and export it for editing and mixing to PT Le

peez

kalony

I have know Idea!!!
But I have the m-audio fastTrack so I would be PT ready. But I was never interested because I have a mackie 1640 for recording and didnt think I can use it with PT
Is PT using the core-audio on a mac?

cheers

The audio engine in OS X is vastly superior to anything Microsoft has come up with so far, but I'm interested to see what develops in Windows 7.

If you want lots of great capabilities and free plugins in OS X, Logic is the way to go. For me, the workflow in Cubase is much better so I am a Cubase and OS X guy, but I also run Cubase in Windows on the same box to play around with free VSTs. It's easy to use my sessions in both OS's, so it's not a big deal to me.

That all being said, I have yet to use any of the free VSTs in Windows in any of my productions, because I have enough great commercial and bundled VSTs in Cubase in OS X that I really don't feel the need to use anything else. Windows is more just something I play around with, and of course do testing for Recabinet in. Cubase rocks in OS X and I'm really happy with it.
