How it happened this year:

Thanks for the breakdown Glenn.

Question about the Psy Waltz. I had been in contact with Devon/Buddy, who mentioned a PW offer was on the table. But he wanted to concentrate on DsT.

I wonder, does this mean DST was never in the running *this year*, or is their window still open? DST would be an anticipated North America/US debut for a good number of folks.

well, Im gonna guess that Jon Schaffer was the loud - mouthed guitarist, considering at PPIII he was certain he'd play at PPIV.

No Rhapsody? FOR SHAME. Rhapsody would go over more than awesome for PP , I'd pay an extra 50 bucks/ticket to see that happen too.

The loud mouthed guitarist was the guy from Angel Dust. Unless Schaffer changed his band and name I don't think he was even approached to play ProgPower VI. Maybe as Demons and Wizards, but not as Iced Earth.

Who cares anyway? Lol, we have much better guitarists than him in the fest this year... Wait until you see Kiko and Rafael from Angra live... or Tore Ostby from Conception... And Timo Tolkki from Stratovarius is amazing as well. Schaffer is not needed, although Iced Earth is great and he's a good guitarist..

Geeeez. :err:

Hopefully this will finally put an end to the annual speculation by certain fans about FW playing this festival. They obviously don't care about it. :Smug:

I do, that is why I didn't ask you directly.

Ah, but yet you pose the questions on his own public forum?

Were the questions supposed to be rhetorical or something? Because if the questions were not rhetorical and you were expecting an answer from someone else than you don't have any business sense, not to mention respect for Glenn in his own house.

While I can only speculate why this happened, we do know that Ray Alder of Fates has graced The ProgPower stage in the past (with Redemption), so I'd imagine Ray wasn't the one who wanted to take the pass. I'd guess that with the lineup changes and other issues (Mark leaving the band) they may not be interested in touring the states this year. After the fiasco on the Disconnected tour they may no longer have a taste for it - at least here in the states (what with the promoters having them start 1/2 hour or more before the advertised time and such). At least Mike Portnoy finally gets to play with them onstage for an entire set in Europe from what I hear (this was planned during the Disconnected tour - In Seattle or Portland if I remember correctly - but Fates' tour bus broke down so they couldn't make that show. Note that Mike did sit in with them for an OSI song during their set on that tour at the other shows).

Too bad too - this was the one place us Fates fans might have been able to see John Arch hop onstage with the boys one more time! I personally would have loved to hear him do one of his new solo songs!!!

Anyways, thanks for asking them at least Glenn!

Congrats on getting some good talent together Glenn. While I will not be attending this year I am glad that you have the ability to make all these people happy.

There was some speculation on the board that Accept might have been a band, were they ever seriously considered if given the opportunity would you accept (ha!) such a band on your festival line-up?
Congrats again.

You already know my feelings on the subject. Accept may not not be exactly Prog or Power but many power bands have claimed them to an influence and I think if you had given them half a chance you would hae found alot to like in Wolf's guitar playing. I did pledge $500 toward Accept, did that make any difference or would I have had to pledge more or was it never a possibliity from the get go?
Inquiring minds want to know.

....I hope not. They don't really seem to fit at all.

So, it sounds like circumstances cost us an Angel Dust reunion (if the guitarist kept quiet about the offer) and a Sonata Arctica debut (the on again - off again Nightwish tour). The festival should be great, but I would have loved to see those two bands.

Well....not to offend you.....but I don't see why there would be any reason to have an 80's band when there is so much better stuff available.

Mainly because this reunion is likely to be a very short lived thing with probably no US appearances. It's also the first time they've toured with 2 guitars with Udo in 18 years. He seems into his exclusives and this one would be fairly exclusive.
