hm.. thing i do recently and find preety interesting is cuadtracking, no actually super focusing on tightness, i think the fact that the takes sound a bit different gives the stereo wideness anyways... so what i do is what i've read somewhere on gearslutz, put 100%L track, a 100%R track with a bit lower volume, reverse the phase of that last one, and start bringing the pan of that track closer to the center, as you do that, you'll notice the L guitar go further than the actual stereo, so i do that with the other two tracks and it really fills up the thing, dunno it's what i'm playing with right now and it may help.
