how many of you are professional AE/Producer...?

Fulltime pro -been doing this since 1993.
Last time I counted I had around 300 productions under my wings. All from rock to extrem metal.
So I have gone from all analog on 2" tape to digital (Pro Tools/Nuendo). Still missing that squeezed sound on drums that you´ll from a healthy 2" taperecorder ala Otari.
I had national TV here a couple of months ago - the tech guys had never seen a 2" tapemachine live. Makes me wanna cry.

Rock on

I just do it as a hobby but I really want to go to Audio Engineering school and learn the trade professionally. Even if I cant make a career out of it, I just want the knowledge.

^ u don't learn that much of the trade professionally by going to Audio engineering school to be honest.

You learn the most by doing it as a professional day in day out working with all sorts of different bands and different music cos there's a lot of know-how/practical and knowledge stuff that only comes from experience that audio schools will never prepare u for.

Been doing it professional for a year now , but stopping for the next 2 years due to conscription :(

with some luck i might still get some mixing/mastering work to kill the boredom until i get out of stupid army

Engineer/mixer at audiohammer studios. Done trivium, bury your dead, the autumn offering, seemless, chimaira...to name a few. Currently mixing sanctity and starting a new project tomorrow.

I smoked a lot of weed when I was in the military. It's the cure for boredom.

Switch over to the Air Force and you can get an instant E-6 as a recording engineer in Colorado. Not bad duty!!!

Congrats, man. I'm very envious of those who get to record the music that they love.

ex-pro bass player/singer/session dude....now focusing on writing and the odd bit of tweaking and leaving everything that sucked about my former gigs and the people involved behind. Produced a few small projects which faded into deserved obscurity back in the heyday of industrial rock in the 90's but more of a motivator/mentor than engineer which I left to those more qualified than I.

No desire to be a full-time engineer, but the non-technical aspects of producing appeal as that isn't that far removed from my day gig managing and co-ordinating big projects in other industries. I have to deal with many different and difficult personalities, get results and co-ordinate resources all on a crazy schedule!

I make a lot of noise.. sometimes for money.. sometimes not. I do all my own work, and I'm on the schedule at 2 studios (most of the time) in my area recording other bands. Semi-pro I guess. I am constantly working on someone's material.

But I still have to have a day job selling hot tubs. YAY.

I think that you meant Florida. :)

damn early mornings (yes 10am is early for me) and late nights lol. i was looking at oz's post and since he was from canada i thought different things...

but yeah my goal by the time I'm 35 or so is to be mostly a full time engineer/producer with my own studio, or at least building one. I will have multiple sources of income so i won't ever really rely solely on the studio.
