Hi yea im new to this forum and im recording some PanterA covers but i need suggestions... does anybody know how to get the Dimebag sound(Cow Boys from Hell) for guitars with amplitube2, guitar rig 2,3 or any other guitar amp simulator amp(ill download if possible) and a couple of impulses??

Anybody want to share some settings or suggestion on how i can achieve that Dimebag sound?

My Equipment:
Firepod
Nuendo 3.2
Decent amount of plugs.... Waves, Psp, Vooxengo, Urs, Izotope.
Amp sim plugs= Amplitube, amplitube 2, Guitar rig, and waves Guitar amp.
Cam Impulses= Guitar Hack impulses
Guitar= Jackson dinky with Emgz, and Jackson Kelly

i know he always used solid state up till the end when he went with krank which goes against the grain....he always said he hated the way tube amps sounded

so that shows ya right there....no rules one of the greatest metalbands ever using solidstate

If you check around at Line 6's website you can find my Warhead patches(Which actually sound morelike 80's Pantera), that can be tweaked to sound pretty much like any Pantera Album.

Don't forget the Bill Lawrence L-500XL pickups. An important element.

Not entirely true.
The pickups in my Washburn WG580 gives me the same attack, gnarlyness and sustain as his. ;)

Here's a list of Eqipment he used. I think you will never nail his tone 100% even if you have all the Equipment and his exact settings, because the magic was in his fingers. But you'll come close.

I doubt you will get the sound with those EMGs though.

But buying a Bill Lawrence or a Dimebucker will get you in the right direction.
Also i think you have to mike an actual amp. Those modellers are OK but compared to a real amp they are really shitty.

I'd say slam something like Amplitube on there with one of Guitarhacks on Axis Impulses, and then get your fav eq out and start fucking with dropping the mids out, try different frequencies, you need to try and find the mids that dime scooped to get that tightness, but also not sound thin. Also check this out, never tried any of it, so I don't know if it'll help or not, but it's worth a try:-

Dude... Dime had multiple MXR EQ's. He had one EQ pedal scooping the mids and one EQ pedal BOOSTING the mids. He had 40 different things running in all kinds of directions. You will NEVER get Dime's sound. 50% of a guitarist's tone is in his hands. When the other 50% is coming out of EMG's and a 5150, it's a little easier. You don't have that luxury with Dime. There are all kinds of things to consider. And he still never told anyone about EVERYTHING that was in his rig. But, just a few things to think about....

1. He flipped the Bill Lawrence 500XL around in his bridge position. Said it sounded better backwards.
2. According to Grady Champion, Dime only used the Warhead for clean sounds, NEVER his Rhythm.
3. EVERYTHING he played ran through an old MXR Flanger/Doubler, control by Grady.

This list can go on for days... The closest you'll get to Dime's tone, is by shooting for James Hetfield tone on "Justice"... That was Dime's favorite recorded guitar tone, and it is basically what he was going for, in the first place. But, he was trying to get there without tube amps.

The EQ that's boosting the mids it used to add attack and grind, it's most notable on palm-mutes. It should go before your pre. This trick was also used by Nuno B and Michael Wagener on Extreme's "Pornograffiti" album.
And I think Mike Clink also used it to create Slash's sound.

LOL dude if you have to ask that question, then you'll never understand the answer, which is, in short, "________", because unless you go Sith like me and unlock the unnatural abilities of the dark side, and influence the midichlorians to create life and return Dimebag back from the Netherworld, his tone is gone forever. No, no, no, bitches!

Krankensteins with the matching cabs are pretty cool, I thought it sounded pretty close with a Dime ML style guitar with a Bareknuckle miracle man in the bridge. The green tortex's are pretty much essential too. Jazz 3 XL man myself.

To clear things out... I KNOW I WONT GET THE SOUND TO BE 100% but i just wanted to mess with amp sims to try to get close to it(even if its minimal).... I know I dont have the Cash to buy exactly all the equipment he used but I want to try to get as close to the tone with does sim programs(just for fun).

BTW i just got my hands on the new Amplitube Metal and they have a Randall Warhead Amp head so ill see what i can do with that program and some impulses :)

But thanks I really appreciate the replys!!!!!!:headbang:

You could always match the intro to walk...

Wrong. I'll say again...
From Grady Champion himself, they never used the Warhead's for his Dirty/Rhythm sounds. The Warhead's were used for the clean sounds only. Dime's Heavy guitar tone always went through the Century 200's and there were some RG100H heads in there too.

Are you sure? This rig was apparently spec'd by Dime's guitar tech in 2000. I'd be shocked if Dime didn't use his fucking SIGNATURE AMP for heavy tones live!
