Hows the new Iron Maiden album?

No way, Dance of Death was pretty decent, this album is mostly over long and bland. It is meandering and sterile and attempts to masquerade itself as epic and progressive when really it is incredibly dull and lacks much of the fire that even Dance of Death retained.

i disagree with this. i find the new album to be a little more experimental. i'll admit that a very similar style of songcrafting is used often on the album, however, it works for me. thats probably the important line, it works for me.

DoD in my opinion had too many filler tracks.

It's in the middle(not bad or great). I can't really see maiden releasing something horrible, but they will never top killers,etc...

For an 80's band in the now they could be a lot worse. Iron Maiden has proven to be more 'cool' than pretty much any heavy 80's band.

Yeah it is :kickass:

I thought I was the only one here who watched it. How great is this season, huh? Talk about sub plots and character developement!

okay, this is where i stop before i derail the thread.

i love it. great show. we shall have to begin another thread somewheres else. if you do such a thing, link me. :)

i still stand by my thought that the new album is fantastic.

Actually I can say its pretty good. I enjoy it. And I heard ppl said it sounds too "merry" but damn... It gives some powers and kinda makes you wanna live after listening to it (I can say the same about new Amon Amarth, btw.), I know I sound strange.
Also ppl said that Bruce's voice is starting to die. Maybe. - But doesnt sound any worse.
I love all songs on the album, and especially "The Longest Day".

+1

It took me a few listens and also seeing it performed live in it's entirety for me to appreciate it, but now I can say it is a really good album.

My one reply, cuz I don't want to derail the thread either.

I love how they have a plot regarding the patient and the overall plot regarding the doctors and the legal shit that House is in. It makes it very interesting. Great stuff.

Well yeah I'd say it's grown on me, but that still doesn't leave it on very steady ground.

Probably my main gripe is that the songs are so long and slow! Perhaps one of my favourite things about classic Maiden is their DYNAMICS. On this album they seem to have settled into a rut of repetitive mid paced riffs, followed by slow section after slow section...then repeat it.

Their is no electricity in the musicianship, save for a few redeeming Smith solos. The drums are a total letdown, the rhythm guitar playing is laughable, and the soft bass intros were already exhausted after the previous two albums.

The lyrical themes don't seem esepcially great either. One doesn't have to think too hard to remember a dozen great sets of Maiden lyrics, and yet on this album Bruce's vocals wander around discussing war and so on in a fairly unconvicted way.

Put simply, I just DON'T THINK IT'S VERY GOOD, and I bloody hope they manage to end their career with something that is more explosive than this wet firework of an album.
