Do you consider Iron Maiden power metal?

Their first two albums were Speed Metal, actually. I prefer BG over IM too, but whatever.

BG have done a lot of speed metal work, even some of their newer stuff like parts of Nightfall, such as Into The Storm and shit and parts of Curse Of Feonor. One reason I've liked them, it's just straight up ass kicking metal with fantasy themed lyrics pulled off beautifully.

I think Iron Maiden are 100% Heavy Metal.
Power Metal is just one (maybe the first) of the many evolutions that Heavy Metal had during last 15 years, it started with bands like Helloween (Walls of Jerico), more or less in 1987.
But Heavy and Power Metal are different!

I think Surfin' USA's a tad bit funnier.

Iron Maiden definitely laid down the template for power metal. They put the vocals and guitarwork in place, and then Manowar and Helloween picked it up from there. Soon, Stratovarius and Blind Guardian would beef up the sound a bit, a lot in BG's case, but generally, Maiden hasn't had that double bass/keyboards feel. Their melodies are all on a different scale, too. I think power metal is played on E maj, while Maiden were always E min.
