HUGE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And still, why the hissy fit at the link?

Did lane do it faster and get forgotten or is it fake or what?

Dellavega video is FAKE, Do a search on google for the CELL PHONE version. He fucks up like mad! The You Tube version is overdubbed. There is a cellphone video out there that Dellavega had removed from You Tube but you can still find it if you look for it. On the Cellphone video it shows him fucking up all over the place and playing nothing but "pick noise". If you ntice in the you tube video around 260 the tone changes, thats where the overdubs started.

HAHAHAHAH Found it!!

Sounds totally different and there are fuck ups like mad! Go to about 30 seconds in...

Okie dokie. I just dimly recalled that it existed and ended with 320, skipped to 320 to check that it was 320, had a quick listen, wondered why anyone would bother doing that and posted for reference.

A quick word to that effect or 'thats fake' would have sufficed, rather than jumping down my throat.

People like to jump down throats here dude.

I think he is pissed he cant play that fast :p

hahaha no dude this bands actually at 320 i thought they were just fucking with me, its probably the fastest shit i have heard in awhile, there drummer is fast as fuck, there signed to a Russian label thats about all i know,

but there fast as hell.

You're miscalculating something. Even the fastest drummers in the world think anything over 250 is dumb and damn near impossible. It's been done, but not 320. Set your metronome to 16th notes and jack it up to just 300. I bet he can't hit the drum for every time that click goes off.

Simply not true, the top tier of "speed" drummers can hit 270/280 for short amounts of time cleanly. And play at around 250, it's not that many people but it's not "considered dumb" (well not if used appropriately anyway )

But unless the dude is a really, really good drummer then I highly doubt he could play much over 200 comfortably.

What would you call the tempo of the drumming in the video above then? Our drummer is very very quick, but we're only at 145 bpm. Does everyone see how this tempo thing confuses the peasants.

Being a layman I'll do my best, judge the tempo based on the main rhythm.
So in the bit at 1:00 would be 200 odd bpm, but the sweepy/kicky bit is much slower. That's how I figure out what the bpm should be worked out from anyway.

how am i going to record my own click?
sorry if thats a dumb Q i just have no idea lol.

that would work out fine tho.

Load a sampler on to a track with a cowbell or something. Set the project at 80bpm. On every 1/16th let it play the cowbell. When possible pitchshift the cowbells on the 1/4. Do this for 1 bar. Export as a wave file and load it in a new project where you loop it. Then you should have a click with a 4/4 time signature at 320bpm.

I'm saying it's impossible, much less am I saying it's impossible for short bursts. I'm sticking with my statement that it's dumb though. I love fast shit, but sometimes you gotta know that if they're moving THAT fast it has NOTHING to do with the song or an artistic expression, or even MUSIC... Most people playing at those tempos are doing it just to impress others or be EXTREME, and I have zero respect for that. First and foremost, I am a musician (an artist). Pisses me off when people corrupt would-be art for the sole purpose of personal gain (financial OR egotistic).

EDIT: and for the record- one of my good friends has been called "one of the fastest drummers in the world" more than once by articles in Modern Drummer and other reputable publications, and yeah, I'm pretty damn sure he would agree with me on this.

You're assuming they are doing it solely to impress, this to be perfectly honest, is ridiculous. "Most" (I can only think of two or three) of these bands are not playing in a genre of music where there is any significant financial reward to seek anyway. And to attempt to elevate yourself above those bands is just sycophantic, and I highly doubt you will ever reach the "artistic" quality of bands that I am thinking of, of course this is all subjective though.....:)

First of all, I said the goal to impress can be for ego as well. And I happen to know it's absolutely true in many cases, first hand. Second, I didn't "elevate" myself at all. I simply stated what annoys me, which is opinion only. Third, and most importantly... you don't know me or ANYTHING I've done and therefor have no basis to judge my "artistic" quality or expressions or integrity. Not that art can be judged anyway, as it is all a matter of individual perception. I didn't personally attack you, and you would do VERY well to return that favor in the future.

This thread needs some Scott Columbus

I didn't say anything that suggested that I am familiar with you as a musician, hence why I said "I doubt".
And why I made the point that you have also raised, that it is all down to the listener.
I was annoyed that your post seemed to condemn anyone that plays above a certain speed, as being artistically corrupt.

We clearly disagree, but you should know that I did not mean the post to come off as aggressive, which it obviously did.

Fair enough... We'll agree to disagree then.
