i did the craziest thing just a few minutes ago...

yea, it's really not that bad....i'd played around with one a few years ago, and sounded like ass, and that impression stuck on me

i found that the secret is in that damn contour knob - turn it up too high, and you have muddy shit. too low, and it's mid-rangey crap with no balls. keep it between 5-7 o'clock, and you can get some usable tones out of it

active pickups help that thing out a lot, as well

...isn't between 5 and 7 o'clock literally the entire span of the knob?

fucking duh! i meant 11-and-1

and i didn't get any clips...i've been recording a buddy of mine with it, but am using the effects send into a DI, then throwing a cab impulse on it

we just hooked up my cab and let it rip for a minute to hear the difference between our guitars. my ESP h-200 with the stock duncan pickups sounded pretty good...his ESP with the randy rhoads-style body H4's sounded pretty similar. my jackson with its blackout killed both, and his shitty dimebagg dean sucked ass.

oh well a lot of people claim that amp sounds better than the new and mid 90's valvestate series, and it's less expensive lol
The first valvestate series was really good for the money, Chuck (schuldiner) used that series if I'm not wrong

It doesn´t compare to the first valvstates, that´s true, i love those amps, maybe is the only marshall that i like, Arjen Lucassen uses one too. and yeah chuck used that, check their dvd live at the whiskey a go go, both are using old valvestate heads, and guitars sound really good
