Ever open your eyes one day and discover something that has been around a very long time & say 'holy shit, where the hell have I been'? Feels like I've been asleep for the past 20 years.

OK, so it's likely nothing new to most (if not all) of you, but Brocas Helm's 'Into Battle (1984)' is amazing . I bought 3 of their CDs based entirely on the description from Sentinel Steel & I am in awe. (Haven't listened to the other 2 yet-but if they are anything like this, I'd be astounded)

To me, this is ('In Rock' era) Deep Purple, Bloodrock, Rory Gallagher, Spooky Tooth, Cactus and Ten Years After formed into one excellent heavy metal album. The songs on 'Into Battle' remind me of the hard rock I was listening to through the 70's. Very heavy music with LOTS of lead guitar.

I seriously wonder what else have I may have missed as a result of my extended slumber. Maybe someone can suggest something in this style I may not yet be aware of.

Brocas Helm is great! Awesome!

I only discovered them myself on moving to the Bay Area, where they still reside. I saw them once with Slough Feg (in a gay bar, hilarious), and was blown away. I hadn't previously known them. They play out a few times a year (and do some festivals in Europe) and I always make sure to catch them. Sad to say, but I'm usually one of about 25 to 50 people in the audience at most. Still, they are great guys, funny, down to earth, and don't seem to give a hoot that not a lot of people show (though sometimes people do show....)

Brocas Helm is the shyte. A Bay Area gem....and though the numbers of attendance are generally low as stated, I can tell you for sure that the guys in Slough Feg, Hammers of Misfortune....and other local bands all look up to them as the Godfathers....

I never really was really a fan of the records, but saw them live in a small pub in Belgium (about 150 people I guess) and they kicked serious ass !! A very, very good live band... These chaps are fun and have loads of energy !!!

I know the sensation. I have discovered many bands 15 or more years too late

I've got to watch out for them around here in So Cal. There's a number of smaller venues (within 30 minutes) they may just show up at. Judging by the bands considered similar to them in Last.FM and other sites, I'm surprised they haven't acquired more recognition. They sure deserve it, but then again there are a lot of great bands that actually prefer to remain underground.

Haven't heard of Slough Feg. Gonna have to do a bit of digging.

I am blown away by this CD (and the other two as well). With any luck, they'll show up somewhere close enough for me to see them.

hehe, yep, I hear ya!

I still keep hearing of more bands too(mostly thanks to all you here at UMOS) that I missed but I just dont have the cash surplus to check them all out. I'll just have to be content with what I have already and the few extra I may gain...
