Is the initial design on your leg a mixture of stencil and freehand or just freehand? Was it his own design? I really really dig his line style.

I believe the whole thing was freehand. And it was a sheila wot done it.

I'm going to try and get one while I'm in London. Was thinking about something like this, cos it looks awesome:

But I'd also like something to do with travel and using the line "The point of the journey is not to arrive" (from "Prime Mover" by Rush) somewhere... but I can't think of anything. :(

still want to get a tattoo but no artists that I know willing to give a facial tattoo, so may have to go New Zealand to a traditional Maori artist.

also have some sleeve tat ideas but need the right artist for it. :)

What sort of facial tattoo? And: Why a facial tattoo?

I mean, if I could decide what to get I'd get a tattoo, but I'd never get one on the face. Unless you're a Maori. That I understand.

not Maori, just really obsessed with the notion of a facial marking of some kind.

the style I want mixture of traditional Asiatic/Middle Eastern and Gothic. Something starting from the edge of my left eye, branching around under my left eye and back to my temple, with space enough to be added to later over my ear and down my jawline.

these are really difficult because of work stuff and the like, so need ultimate security or something away from the public eye before I get it planned.

but ultimately would like a serious of tattoos that can be connected together into a triptych style work.

Spiff is right, it was all freehand. Had a rough idea of what I wanted and she drew it straight on my leg. In total took about 2 hours, not bad I reckon, except that it was at a tat convention so I had loads of people stopping to stare at me! But that's fair enough I guess. It cost £230. I wasn't actually planning on getting anything so it was money I couldn't really afford, but I loved the stuf in her book and she had travelled over from Germany for the convention, so I thought I should just go for it. :)

Shadow - There were loads of guys with face tats at the convention, and someone was having one done while we were there. I'm sure you'll get someone in NZ to do it for you but if not a trip to Europe may be in order.

Southy - yep, already planning the next ones! :D

It was at Tattoo Jam (www.tattoojam.co.uk), which had loads of artists from around the world. Lots of crap/average stuff, but plenty of solid and well-known artists too (including a guy from London Ink, woman from LA Ink, and Joe Capobianco who has been on Miami Ink, whose pinup stuff I really like). Bev's artist isn't well-known but other artists seemed to know who she was, and a few stopped in and commented on Bev's tatt as it was being done, all impressed :)
