I hate idealistic young leftists

Winston Churchill said something very similar to that, "If you arent a democrat when your young, you have no heart, if your not a conservative when you are older, you have no brain".

hmmm, I wonder who ripped who off?
damn, i didnt know that!

btw what i meant was that people often has very polarized political beliefs in their youth, but most of them turn more moderate (not neccecarily conservative) as they grow older.

i believe someone said something similar earlier?

And would you understand a non-Algerian Arabic speaker, or do the forms differ too much to understand one another?

Marx almost had the right of it. he just forgot to account for human nature. take some communism, add a dash to market freedom, and you'll have yourself a pretty decent society to live in.

This is funny though, I mean how state socialism is still bashed to a great extent, when social security and other benefits were much higher than now either here or in a lot of western democracies. For example, three years paid maternity leave for women, that still exists. After the revolution a lot of things got much much better, and a lot of problems are permanent, regardless of the regime. Many people think of state socialism here as the period when you had employment and if you worked, at least you could achieve a decent way of living and you didn't have to be paranoid about losing your job. Of course it's much more complex than that, but what I see now as big differences is that consumerism and crime are unprecedentedly high. Freedom, bahh, everyone has become a shopping slave, no exception.

As far as I can see there was no attack on the left wing or left-wing policies, anyway, social welfare policies don't necessarily come from the left wing. What you say there is too black-and-white for me, "they alone have basically been the stalwart of human rights and everything that is good in international relations", considering only present-day Hungary and its stupid left-wing rule it's bullshit.
Obviously if you slide too far left there is the danger of Stalinist communism etc, but that isn't what I meant. I was referring to the left of centre that tries to breach the ever widening gap between rich and poor etc.

But yeah, the original post in this thread wasn't necessarily left bashing. In fact, I can empathise with the annoyance one receives upon being around such people. I spent my time as an undergraduate too hahahahahaha. Hippy fucking central.

yeah but it just didnt work, it was all fake, fake figures, a fake economy, why do you think it eventually collapsed? everyone had a job but no wealth was created, isnt that a bit weird? thats why its west germany thats helping east german and not the way round, its because ex-communist countries were trying to keep up the illusion of a prosperous economy where everyone had a job, except this wasnt reality.

I know, that's why I said it's more complex than that. I was just talking about how a lot of people here feel about it. You can explain it to the needy, still, what they'll see is that they could make ends meet then but they sink into poverty now. Or even if they don't, the differences in wealth between people are much more visible now and that's why they are angry. So maybe the state made them believe they can prosper if they work, no one believes that now, cause there's a lot of disillusionment.
