I have given up on Iced Earth

Even with Barlow "The Glorious Burden" would've been weak. Horror Show is such a better album.

I don't really like the production of the new EP either. The drums sound like a cheap programmed machine. It really sounds like a polished demo recording. Ripper just sounds bored.

I totally agree. Hopefully Schaffer will realize that and just let The Ripper go. Then again it is just the EP.

personally I was a big fan of Glorious Burden, not my favorite iced earth (SWTWC or TDS), however it was a very solid disc. Also the Gettysburg trilogy at the end was done really well. I haven;t heard the EP because I dont like songs to stand out a new cd. I expect it to be solid though because Iced Earth seems to always be solid and always bring the same iced earth-esque they are known for. Ripper is also great and I don't know why he gets so much shit. People just don't accpet change sometimes.

As for the trilogy, it's not something Jon wanted to do. He was merely filling an obligation to the record company.

Zod

ok wait, he had an obligation to SPV to re-record the SW trilogy? That seems kind of weird imo...

Anyway, on topic...I think the new versions are alright. Some of the guitar pizazz seems to be missing, but all in all I think Ripper did the best he could with it.

Well the exact quote from Schaffer was "the label wanted me to do something with the original trilogy to reintroduce the story", he makes it seem like the decision to make that "something" re-recording was his own idea.

All I ever hear is how most people are so upset over Matt leaving and Ripper joining, yet the last Iced Earth CD, THE GLORIOUS BURDEN, sold twice as many units as any other IE CD (I have seen this statistic multiple times and Jon has said as much as well)... so although the older fans who have been with the band for a while may be disappointed, the band is gaining new fans with Ripper that they otherwise didn't have with Matt...

My point being as long as new fans keep buying Iced Earth's new CDs I don't think Jon will be too concerned with what the older fans have to say.

Not surprising. The Glorious Burden was Iced Earth's first with SPV. SPV has done a much better job promoting IE than Century Media ever had. As it stands now, Iced Earth is headlining Wacken, touring Europe with Heaven & Hell, and starting a headlining world tour in January. As you said, Jon isn't losing sleep.

Anyone dreaming of Matt's return to the band, better pray that Ripper choses to leave. Because there's no way Jon is going to ask him to leave.

Wow, finally caught wind of this thread. I can echo what Zod said regarding Jon Schaffer's reluctance to re-record the original Something Trilogy resulting in a lesser quality product, definitely do not let that cloud your judgement regarding the new albums. As for the lead single, I think it's an extremely solid track that hits you right over the head for a three minute thrill ride. Based on the enthusiasm shown on that track, I'm really looking forward to the new releases.

That's the other aspect of this I don't get... what's the complaint with the single? OK... if you're not an Iced Earth fan, and you find it genric, that's your call. But if you dig Iced Earth, I'm not sure what you'd dislike about this track. It's exactly what I want from Iced Earth; a song that makes me want to turn my stereo to 11.

I'll make my observations when I actually purchase the cd. :Smug:

I don't care what anyone says about a song when they've downloaded it without buying it. If you believe in a band to begin with, you'll be patient and spend the money when the song is released. And I refuse to listen to a bunch of Iced Earth naysayers who've been crying ever since Barlow left. Get over it. I did. I was just as upset when Barlow walked away not only from Iced Earth, but from singing altogether. But now, he's about to make a triumphant return with Pyramaze.

So get over it, and get over your snobbish selves. geez. :p

Where did you get this idea? :guh: I realize it's only an opinion, but out of all the Iced Earth fans I know, I don't think more than one or two were satisfied with The Glorious Burden. I realize it's only an opinion, just wondering where you're coming from.

I feel like IE has always remained consistent with what they do. I don't get where people think that TGB is a subpar album by them? :err: Like you said, it's just opinions and everyone has one, right?

Couldn't be said any better!

I miss Matt Barlow like a lot of other people, but anyone who thinks Ripper isn't talented enough to be in ICED EARTH is out of their minds. Ripper is in, Matt is out. That's the way it is. Now let's move on.

I was kind of iffy the first time through, but I the second was much much better as least as far as the new track goes. I am still having some problems with the trilogy. Its mainly the screams in part 3 because I am expecting this totally beyond human comprehension scream and it is Ripper instead. Not that Ripper is bad, but Barlowe was made for TDS and SWTWC, nuff said.

Like both Ripper and Owens, although I prefer Barlows voice more. I still like Iced Earth and always will. I do think they need to stick with originals though and not redo any Barlow tunes with Owens. 2 different styles and if anyone has seen the video of Dracula on Youtube with Ripper - they know what I'm talking about.
