I'm just somewhat dubious of a lot of this "pre-/re-mastered especially for vinyl" thing they say on a lot of recent vinyl re-issues...that isn't enough detail really. Did they use the original master tapes, or 3rd/4th/5th generation inferior copies? Or just a digital transfer, in which case why not simply just put it out on CD...if its gonna be done, it should be done properly, is what I'm saying I guess. Not everyone is poor quality but these things are important to get the most out of the format

I'm pretty sure, for the most part, they are digital transfer. Especially coming from the bigger labels. Vinyl is a cash craze now, they want every opportunity to cash in on it!

Still even if some are done this way, you still get a great low end sound. Comparing some of my recent vinyl purchases with the original cd and the vinyl sound is way better. More fitting for metal though.

yeah thats true about megadeth, judas priest etc, i live in sort of a small town, so they are hard to come by.... and if i rememeber right i think i got a deal on rust in peace.

as for reissues, i can see that. although the past metallica reissues from the master tapes are incredible, ride the lightning has never sounded so....clear....its almsot like a new experiance

Probably the newest issue since Peaceville are using them for all their new releases now. Why can't labels just use regular jewel cases? I don't mind digipaks so much, but hate it when they don't come with booklets...coughpeacevillecough....
