I just watched Audition..

Another element is the sound editing. It's incredible how so much atmosphere is built upon drips of water and the bashing of the metal water tank on the roof (where she keeps seeing the red purse). Just fucking brilliant - easily one of the best Asian films IMO.

Yes, it is quite impressive.. But best Asian film? I'm not so sure about that one.. :erk: Only because of the quality of the opposition, not because it's a bad film ;)

I saw the English dubbed version of it, and like most manga, I felt it dragged a little.

I can see that, yeah, but I didn't feel that way.. No idea why, I just liked the pace!

Own it - not seen it yet. I'm a moron I know - but time escapes me. By the way, it has a huge cult following a la Reanimator.

Cool, it's well worth seeing.. Lots of messages and meaning behind everything, apparently there's a lot of stuff on the web discussing all the hidden messages.. Ive still got to look them up..

The Thing is Carpenters best ever - yep, I think it's better than Halloween. There's a new directors cut of Halloween coming out by the way with two documentaries (on Anchor Bay)

Same here.. Probably because by the time I saw Hloween it was so similar to all the clones it inspired that it felt less original.. Another DVD edition of Halloween? How fucking annoying, I just got the double disc version a few months ago.. And they're released an evil dead box set just after I bought all the individula DVDs as well..

Hellraiser II is the best one, Kevin Smith rules, but Mallrats sucks balls, and the next film on my must see list is Freddy v Jason although it will probably fail on every level and then some.

I've never seen II, just 1 and 5.. I found Mallrats funny, in a tacky kinda way :) My favourite (I think) is Chasing Amy.. Damn good film, but so are all of them, so...

Freddy Vs Jason isn't out here yet :( And you have to go and see it many times, just to see the three different endings! :D Even if it is a complete failure..

Hey I can finally jump in because I actually know stuff about Kevin Smith movies! Clerks is my favorite movie of all time, even though I consider Dogma to be his masterpiece.

You two realize that one of these days I'm printing this thread out and renting or buying most of these movies, right? :)

Don't blame me if you hate them all when you do! :hotjump:

:tickled:

Not the best, but ONE of the best. Hidea Nakata is probably my fave director though - Dark Water, Ring 1 & 2 all could be in my top 5 (Japanese Horror flix). Possibly add in Junk and Versus to complete the list.

Fair enough :) Oh, and I've got weekend passes to this. Jealous? :p

Prince Charles Theatre is a cool place from what I remember. They used to show Rocky Horror Picture show there every Friday night.

By the way, do NOT miss Cabin Fever. I've not seen it yet, but I've read people 'in the know' raving about it. Fangoria did a pretty big article on it too with their stamp of approval. (But then they raved up 28 Days Later, and I'm still indifferent on that one).

Rob Zombie's gonna be there for House Of 1000 Corpses, or so I've heard :)

That film received mixed reviews here - I still want to see it though, with it being an homage to the 70's (even with its look and feel). Most critics wouldn't have got that - but these are the same people who think a TCM remake needed a 'modern' look. Bah.

I wasn't planning on it! It looks very cool from the write up..

I'll let you know what I think when the time comes :)

Let me know how it turns out. It's supposed to appeal to the Evil Dead fanbase.

And notice the similarity in the poster with the Ruggero Deodata flick(cannibal maestro / mysoginist extraordinaire - you seen his stuff?)....
