So I began classes for my masters this past Saturday. When the first professor handed out his curriculum, I learned that I have an oral presentation due October 6th. I spoke to him briefly about it after class, and was informed that I needed to discuss rescheduling it with the another professor (who handles the public speaking sub-section of this class). She is suppose to be in this Saturday.

At my second class, the curriculum revealed I have a mid-term on October 6th. When I saw that, I said to myself, "Fuck it... PPVIII isn't to be.".

After contemplating my options, I've decided I'll talk to the first professor, and if she's cool with allowing me to do the presentation on another date, I'll discuss a different date for my mid-term with my 2nd professor. The mid-term is open book/open notes, so I'm hoping that translates into him being flexible.

Perhaps a note from Glenn would help.:loco:

Been there and I feel for you... in 2002 I saw Savatage at HOB on Sunday, took a final on Monday, hung out with the guys at a 2nd show Monday night and with very little sleep took two finals on Tuesday...I hate in when life interrupts my Metal!!!
Good luck to you Zod!

I really hope you can make it if for nothing more than me being able to elbow you in the ribs during the All-Star Jam and tell you, "I fucking told you the old tunes would rule."

Ah, Zod, that stinks! As for me, I'm missing out on my group prac class AND leading a group (for the prac) which entails teaching a class, observing and taking notes of the demo group, and participating in a task group (the last two are part of the class I have to attend). I'm also missing a stats class. Every year it seems to get more difficult for me to see certain, big concerts.

I feel your pain. However, I've found most grad profs are fairly flexible. So maybe you'll have flexible profs too. :)

LOL. Yeah... I'm going to be seriously bummed if I can't be there. Truth be told, the all-star jam is probably the thing I'm looking forward to most.

And of course, depending on the scheduling of both PPIV and my fall 2008 classes, I could find my self in the same boat next year.

Well Zod if you have a time machine to go back to watch PPIV, I don't think it will be a problem ;) (yeah yeah I know you meant PPIX).

Same here. I love several of the bands on the roster and plan on watching them all. However, I'll only be down front for the Jam. I'm that pumped for it and can't wait to see the reaction of the crowd over certain songs they would have never dreamed of hearing covered.

I hope it works out for ya man!!!

Just my two fer - I'm STOKED about Pagan's Mind, Vanden Plas and Freak Kitchen... The All Star thing will be kewl of course, but these 3 bands I can NOT miss....

Zod, I hope you get to come! I can't tell you how many times I've been in your position for ProgPower! (Yes I can - 4!) The good news is it seems professors are usually more flexible than bosses! If the mid-term is open-book & open-note, it would be silly to deny you a chance to take it at a different time.

I  'd at "a note from Glenn" too!

I feel for you.....I work nights so I miss lots of shows and it sucks going to work knowing that there is a great show going on. I used to work a block from the House of Blues and there were so many times the show was going on and I could see people going into the show. that killed me.

$#&* - It wouldn't be the same without you! Hope you can make it.

I find a problem when explaining my commitment to PP. I have a family function next Oct, and I'm hoping PP isn't the same weekend. I tell my family, and they look at me curiously, telling me it's "just a concert". How do you explain to family, coworkers, professors, etc that PP is a yearly but always different once in a lifetime event?

Good luck changing plans, Zod.

That analysis is dead on. I've had that trouble in the past as well. Trying to explain to a long-time girlfriend at the time (who was not interested in metal), that a concert was not more important than her, but that PP weekend is indeed more than just a concert was impossible. I spend like 25 straight weekends with her, then go to PP only to have it come back to haunt me on the home front from someone who cannot possibly understand the importance of trips like this.

I fully understand, Zod. I sacrificed a lot while I was in college. But when things are done, you'll be glad you did it. Better jobs, better pay, and an overall enjoyment of "Shit... I actually made it!"

Good luck getting your masters degree. (BTW - what is your major?)

I hope you wind up having cool professors, Greg... you, Paula, Britt, Steve, etc. were some of the nicest people I met last year as a noob, and I'm sure I can speak for others when I say PP just wouldn't be the same without you.

Good luck!

I hope you can make it, Zod, really do. And I hope I can make it as well so we can hang out and have another great time as we usually do hanging out. ProgPower wouldn't be the same without you there.
