So, I'm going to give a sampler of a few Opeth songs to a very musical friend, who is into metal, but does not like death metal vocals. He will be able to see past the growls to the amazing songwriting, but I'm trying to choose a good mix of their songs with a minimal amount of death vox.

Here's what I have planned so far
A Fair Judgement
Ending Credits
The Drapery Falls
Face Of Melinda
Harvest
Madrigal
Advent
Epilogue
Credence
The Moor
Blackwater Park
In My Time Of Need
Windowpane
A Bid Farewell
Benighted

(Please don't just tell me to overload the sampler with songs from Damnation, because he does like metal a lot)

Thanks!

What about:

To Bid You Farewell
Benighted
Godheads Lament

They're the only other ones i can think of adding to your list at the mo.

I'd jiffle the order of that, for starters and probably put "Isolation Years" as the last track on there - I know it always leaves me with a complete feeling at the end of GR. I'd like to suggest putting on "The Baying Of The Hounds", but perhaps it's a little too heavy - despite having the immensely uber-cool groove. Nah, go for it, but that one on as well.

The Moor always works. Just tell him to be prepared and get ready for an awesome clean vocal performance later on. He will probably hate the track then come back to it a few days later and decide he likes it.

i would definetely show him baying of the hounds.

lol, I kinda get the feeling Jimmy Carr posts here just cos of the fucking picture.. I might change my sig to someone known..

I am having a similar problem. I like to put all the mellow Opeth on one cd, but when GR came out there are 3 more mellow opeth songs, so which ones dont i include bacause i only have 80 min on my CD. i was thinking of some off damnations, but which ones??

White Cluster, Reverie/Harlequin forest. Both are primarily clean.

and Blackwater Park doesnt really serve as a song with minimal amount of death vocals....considering there are no clean vox whatsoever.

Ya, but I needed to have BWP, just because it is such a great song.

i once saw a guy in my [then] local record store looking at nickelback, so i picked up still life and gave it to him and said it would change his life. a few week later i saw him buying blackwater park and orchid :D
