Im curious to see what other people think of the Iced Earth tour-- I went to see the show last night in San Francisco and walked out after the 2nd song.. The sound was so loud and unbearable we had to walk to the back of the venue to try to get some balance--

The attendance was really light-- maybe 400 people in a club w/ a 960 capacity, and maybe 4 people upstairs in the VIP section.

Into Eternity did a great job as always getting the crowd into it- Savior pretty much made the place empty into the lobby-- not much there that I was into--

Curious to hear other peoples take on this---

Were you using ear plugs? I use my Etymotics for all shows, and the Worcester gig sounded sweeeeet. No idea how it was for the unplugged folks. We didn't have a VIP section... just a meet and greet after the show. I loved their performance in Atlanta and up here.. just wish they did more of the old stuff. I am just psyched to see Barlow! I skipped Savior and IE in favor of some quality time at the irish pub across the street from my venue.

I saw them at Chicago Powerfest.
It was easily the most disappointing live performance I have seen all year.

They simply do not have the magic of Barlow's first tour of duty with Iced Earth.

I think it bears pointing out that James McDonough was a large part of their live performance as well. It looks like watching Schafer and Barlow perform with hired guns. (Oh wait!!!)

The only time I've ever seen IE live was in Atlanta this past year. Honestly, I couldn't be more pleased with my first experience. I've had something of theirs in regular rotation ever since.

I use Etymotics as well. Got the Baby Blues, and my ear canals don't ache after 15 minutes. Night and day difference compared to using typical foam ear plugs. It doesn't kill cymbals and mud up the bass. It just softens everything and keeps the music MUSICAL.

once they clean up their setlists i think we will see a major improvement as far as reviews go, personally i liked their show at prog power, but the fact is no one really cares about the new stuff, even if they act like they do, they just dont.

thier performance at Chicago Powerfest has turned me off from ever going to see them live again....

they were that bad. For the big return show....there just wasnt that spark that I have witnessed the other times that I have seen them.

I feel pretty similar from their PPUSA performance...I didn't even want to go to the show up ion the city the other night.

I dunno, I saw them at NYC and thought they killed it.
It wasn't a sold out show but they only missed by about 200-300 ppl @ Nokia.

Sounded way better than at ProgPower. Though considering I'm not a huge longtime fan of theirs, I'd wager I'm a lot easier to please. I thought the setlist was fine.

The comments about the setlist remind me of how much shit people give In Flames for not playing stuff off The Jester Race...or pretty much every other band ever that's been around a while and wants to play their new material at shows...:rolleyes::rolleyes: (Considering just how much stuff they played that was old material (at the NYC show they did a few), I'd think they did their part to please those fans.)

I thought they were spot-on in Chicago. My only negative thought was that it seemed like it took Barlow's voice a little time to warm up, but by the end he was cutting loose some unholy vocals from hell. Given that it was his first live show with the band in years, I didn't hold it against them at all.

Saw them in NYC. I'd give the show a B-. The band sounded relatively tight. Barlow was solid, albeit not spectacular. The song selection was solid. The set just didn't seem to have a great flow to it. And as I mentioned in another thread, Barlow shouldn't be asked to perform Tim's material. Barlow simply can't reproduce Tim's falsetto, and the songs just sound wrong performed otherwise.

They sounded terrible when I saw them but I suspected it was cause Matt was sick or something. So I have been keeping a close watch on the youtube stuff and sure enough he sounds fucking incredible on the second tour. He absolutely was killing it even on Tim's material he sounded fantastic. So I dunno what was wrong the first leg of the tour, but whatever it was they sound great now so I hope they come back through Florida soon.

Went to the San francisco show with friends and my kids and I have to agree with Dave/BARfest--it was the worst sound quality I have ever heard at a show. Everything was muddy and distorted; you could barely hear the lead guitar and Barlows vocals were in and out sound-wise--sometimes you could hear them and other times they were barely audible. The only constant was Schafer's guitar, which sounded great. It was more than disappointing to hear a major band in a good venue have such lousy sound. I do not understand how the sound guy coul dhave thought the sound was any where near acceptable.
