Jon Schaffer officially revealed yesterday that Tim "Ripper" Owens is the vocalist for The Glorious Burden. There are three clips from the new album available at www.icedearth.com and I have to admit, as much as I liked Matt Barlow, Ripper did a good job on the album. It's going to take a little getting used to the higher vocals but he sounds really good with the music. Hopefully the new one is a bit better than Horror Show, which is probably my least favorite but I've been listening to them since the first album and Stormrider and Burnt Offerings will be hard to top...

I just heard the samples about 30 minutes ago. Fuckin' great. Finally I can hear Ripper sing again with music that doesn't suck. I'm sure it was an honour to sing for Priest, but come on, who cares if the band makes shitty music.

If the entire album is as good as the three excerpts, then I'm betting it will rival The Dark Saga as my favourite IE album.

've never listened to IE so I can't comment on their past albums, but Ripper is a fucking great singer and if IE can make good tunes, Ripper will sing them brilliantly.
When's the album out?

hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I prefer Matt Barlow....this Ripper man must have had his balls ripped-off at an early age because he is EXTREMELY high pitched. I thought Matt Barlow had a better range, but this new guy fits in quite well.

The music....blah....it's blistering but it still just sounds like plain old Iced Earth. Nothing new and in my mind, nothing to get excited about, regardless of how much I liked Horror Show and Something Wicked.

I heard the new sound samples and Ripper sounds great with Iced Earth. I have high hopes for the future of this band. I really hope that Iced Earth could eventually land an opening slot for Judas Priest.

In all honesty, priest is only a fraction of what it used to be, it would be a higher honor for them to open for iron maiden.

I guess the reason why some are disappointed is because Tim Owens is no Matt Barlow....in fact, the only former Iced Earth singer he resembles in anyway is perhaps the first one(forgot his name). So it'll definitely take a while to get used to, but let me tell you, Tim "Ripper" Owens is more than right for the job. As much as people thought he couldn't fill Halford's shoes, NO ONE could've handled the job better than him. And quite honestly, I can't wait to see what he'll do in Iced Earth. This will definitely be interesting...

Tim can growl as well as scream so if he's doing the high pitched stuff I can only guess the band must have wanted it like that. Ripper really can sing though, listen to Priests "Live Meltdown" cd and you'll see.
Fucking awesome range.

ICED EARTH's SCHAFFER: Ex-JUDAS PRIEST Singer Is Not A Member Of The Band - Aug. 8, 2003
Former JUDAS PRIEST frontman Tim "Ripper" Owens contributed vocals to the upcoming ICED EARTH album, "The Glorious Burden", as a guest singer only and has not yet made up his mind as to whether he will join the band permanently.

Speaking to Canada's BW&BK, ICED EARTH mainman Jon Schaffer clarified Owens' status in the group.

"Tim was hired to do the vocals for the record only," he said. "Two days after we finished, he lost his gig with PRIEST. Obviously this changes things and maybe he will be the new guy someday in the future, but right now he needs some time to figure out what he's going to do."

"There will come a time when I will decide to look for a permanent singer in the near future, if Tim can't commit. I hired Tim to do this record knowing that he had the ability to do the parts that I'd written and that was the extent of it. I would love to have Tim as the new frontman in ICED EARTH, but he's got to want it or it's no good for anyone involved. He's going through a big change in his life and I will give him some time to figure out what he wants for his future career, but obviously we can't wait forever."

"Either way, ICED EARTH will carry on in the same tradition as always. I feel great and am very, very optimistic for the band's future, no matter who ends up in the vocal position. I will find the right guy and maybe it is Tim. Time will tell. This record has brought about a new beginning for the band and fate will take its course!"

In an interview with Cleveland's The Beacon Journal last month, Tim indicated that since JUDAS PRIEST's last tour ended in the fall, he has been working on solo demos and has just completed vocal tracks with a well-known musician he declined to name (presumably referring to Schaffer). Owens described his upcoming original work as GODSMACK-meets-PANTERA-meets-PRIEST.

ICED EARTH's "The Glorious Burden", with Tim Owens on vocals, is scheduled to be released through SPV Records in the fall.
