There was a thread where someone posted a link to a free program that tested the ability to run real time audio by measuring the latency of the interrupt services, I can't remember what it was, if someone knows, please say so.

I assume you're referring to DPC Latency Checker...

It's been out for like a year, I'd imagine any respectable plugin would be compatible by now. I haven't had a single plugin not work because I'm on Windows 7.

redline reverb didn't work for me, but that was the only one

As far as windows 7 goes. I'm sort of scared to switch to that.. I have no clue what VST's of mine are and aren't windows 7 compatible

We've got in on our systems and haven't had a single problem. Stable as a rock as well.

Okay I'm getting SIIICKK and tired of my projects crashing on me. To the point where I want to start punching things.

I load maybe 40 tracks, and my playback/computer goes to mush... I'm running windows Vista, with 4 gigs of ram and dual-core 2.71 GHz processor.

TBH... that's not enough... at least in my experience. AT LEAST an i5 Quad core and 8 gigs when you start getting in deep.

Srsly tho, I run dualcore 1.8Ghz w 2Gigs of ram, Win7...If I hadnt developed a workflow of making a lot of pre-mixes in other sessions I'd shoot myself in the face trying to mix that without bouncing/freezing tracks.
Whenever I'll upgrade I guess it will be quadcore with lots of mem.
but what I can tell is that since I run a seperate win7 version for ONLY audio production without any other shit (not even interwebz) it runs a lot better.
