Real quick computer question

Whats more important for recording software, (Cubase, reaper, etc.): RAM or processor speed?

I managed to get my old desktop working again, it has 512mb RAM and 2.6 Ghz.

My laptop however has 1gb RAM and 1.6 Ghz.

I'm considering dedicating one of the two to music recording...but I'd need to buy windowsXP and a virus scanner for the desktop if I use that.

CPU for plugins, RAM for many tracks.

unless you want to be mobile, i'd say get some more RAM for the desktop. Get it up to 1GB min
