I'm quite new to the metal scene. For example, Opeth was the first band I listened to with growling vocals. They have grown to be one of my favorite bands now, and have led me to other bands to I would have otherwise passed up, such as Cynic.

I stumbled upon "Like Fire" and "Eaten" on youtube, and It blew me away. It was a lot heavier than anything I've ever listened to before... and the raw brutality was a big draw for me. I stopped watching after those two videos because I wanted to have an unspoiled full cd experience. My question is, which cd should i pick up? If i enjoy it enough, I am bound to get all of them...but which should I start with?

Thanks.

Awesome, I'll pick them up. Speaking of the "elite of metal". My knowledge of Death Metal music is pretty shallow (if not empty). Is bloodbath the pinnacle of death metal?

if you're looking for something similar to bloodbath, I would recommend entombed, grave, morbid angel and obituary... first two albums of each band.

Seriously though... if you were going to pick up Resurrection Through Carnage... you should pick up Left Hand Path or Clandestine by Entombed. It's basically the source material for the album... and it holds up just fine today.

The best Bloodbath to pick up is Breeding Death/Nightmares Made Flesh/Unblessing the Purity.

And if you want your mind completely blown by a death metal album, pick up The Chasm ~ Deathcult for Eternity: the Triumph.

Which vocal/guitar styling did you like more between the two(eaten, like fire)? I have to say its tie for me between RTC and NMF, but it almost seems like different bands doing similar music. BD is really really really amazing, but you said you wantd a full album so 3 songs will leave you wanting more. Most people around here disagree it seems, but personally i like The Fathomless Mastery more than the other releases. Bottom line, you really cant go wrong with any Bloodbath offering.

Just go with the flow, start from the beginning and move along.. you'll feel how nicely the band evolves into something new each release.

ahhhhhhh this is the best forum ever, everyone's so nice

welcome friend, welcome to death metal, i reccommend skinless "foreshadowing our demise" and maybe deicide "stench of redemption" and get into black metal:heh:, tsjuder "desert northern hell" is an essential:heh:

I think "The Fathomless Mastery" is best Bloodbath album and probably my favorite death metal record aswell. Other then that, Morbid Angel is awsome. I dont like Nile... They are just too much.

If you want to look into the black metal scene you should pick up "Bergtatt" by Ulver. I cant stand the more thrash infulensed black metal, the folkish black metal is way better.

^The most Norwegian metal album ever made!

I think you should be getting Resurrection Through Carnage, if Opeth is your only basis.. if not, then Nightmares Made Flesh.

If you're looking for something that's even moar brootal, try Panzerchrist. They make my ears hurt everytime I listen to them.
(Not because they suck, noooo they're awesome, but because I happen to have a very loud mp3player, which is usually on full volume)

I really liked the chorus on "Like Fire" when Mikael puts that little melody on his vocals in unison with the chord progression.

Thanks everyone for all the help. It seems to me that the best thing is to start from the bottom and work my way up. I'll come back and report how it went afterwords.

As most people already stated, Breeding Death or RTC are the way to start Bloodbath in my opinion. My personal favourite is Nightmares Made Flesh but everything Bloodbath has ever done has been amazing. NMF is probably the most accessible if you're not really used to the death metal sound yet, but that would be up for debate depending on who you ask too:p

Each CD changes the sound pretty significantly after RTC so you'll have to decide which style you like best after you get through it all. Enjoy the audio assault!:kickass:

Indeed, even the assholes here are mostly helpful. The Bloodbath Brotherhood or something!

PS - Welcome to the forums

"Like fire" and "cry my name" was the two first songs i heard with bloodbath, and then i got RTC. So if "like fire" was the first, go and buy RTC ffs!;)
