If you like Nest, Mortiis, Mistigo Varggoth Darkestra, etc

Hell, I shouldn't post to this topic, since this irritates me a lot. Please read Kalevala, read the complete history, listen to some real Finnish folk, not some Nest or Tenhi, they're very good, but doesn't really present real Finnish folk music.

I'm a bit hestitant as to how 'real' Kalevala really is. Sure it's based on genuine folk traditions but ffom what I've read the man (who's name I can't recall) who compiled the book changed parts in order to make it all sound 'better'. I mean it was done in the romantic period when showing up a grand past was more important than a genuinly true one.

So I usually work graveyard shift, which is perfect for my anti social personality. And I can jam brutal shit like Nile, Graveland, and The Jelly Jam.

But these days they moved me to working days. So these strange things called people are around me and I cant headbang whilst doing my work. So I'm down to playing ambient type stuff. Spectral Lore's and Midnight Odyssey's ambient albums are admittedly, pretty damn good. Of course, Lord Wind owns all. But I'm now playing early Mortiis, and this is sick! Reminds me of 80's sci-fi in a way.

What else is good? Wongraven? That Fenriz project?

Yes Erik, Liholesie is on cue.

dude i totally forgot liholesie was a thing that i had ever listened to up until this very moment

i don't generally listen to this type of thing anymore but maybe y'all need to google Dungeon Synth

yes, the burzum/mortiis style of dark casiocore ambient has its own genre name now and there are literally hundreds of bands

just put on a mix like this and daydream about dark medieval castles

I could go to bandcamp and listen to newer dungeon synth, but casiocore fits the office more than bombastic heroic type shit.

but yeah, i will play that mix

i can't vouch for this mix exactly (i'm listening to it now though) but it looks as if it's mostly older bands in a more low-key style. bottom line tho, there's just a LOT of this stuff out there and i have no idea what's good and not.

I like Mortiis and Nest, indeed.

But man when I'm in the mood for dungeon synth / casiocore it's straight to old skool video game soundtracks for me.

Dungeon Explorer and Shadowgate in particular, the title screens alone are amazing:

Final Fantasy VI is the Gold Standard for video game soundtracks. It's just so perfect, I can't pick a favoUrite moment but I do have a particular affinity toward the opening credits and World of Balance themes. Also this one:

And yes, that Entrance theme from Shadowgate is pretty much the greatest "the adventure starts here" song, it's just so motivating. I hear that in my head whenever reading any books with dragons in them. I need to investigate the Uninvited soundtrack more, never got a chance to play that one but should!

I have looped this song for an hour straight and been very happy.

OG Bloody Tears. So good it started the endless theme.

Yep.

Etc.

My favorite video game track of all time. A section on the INFINITELY DELAYED Noltem album is directly inspired by this.

ah yes that is a classic
