If you like Nest, Mortiis, Mistigo Varggoth Darkestra, etc

A lot of good ones here; final fantasy 6, castlevania bloodlines, secrets of mana--this one will always be etched in my brain from that game:

but also:

love this whole soundtrack:

Many hours were spent with (railroad rap!!)

i suck at video game music, but i will always remember super mario bros.

i did hear one of the minecrafts plays the seikilos epitaph, and thought that sounded neato

Nobody has uploaded the individual tracks to YooToob of this classic, which is a crime against art, but the music is amazing. Here is the entire disc, apparently.

Also, here are all the whacky death scenes which gives one a taste of what this game was like:

It typically sells for $500+ on eBay when it comes up for sale and I will NEVER sell mine. I will pawn my Agalloch vinyl before I ditch Beyond Shadowgate.

secret of mana is my favourite game of all time and hiroki kikuta who wrote the music is a reaaaally good and creative actually and gets really fucking out there when they let him. the secret of mana soundtrack is conventional-ish for the most part but he did this remix cd following the release of it and its sequel trials of mana:

so yeah this is a 49 minute one track album of DTMF-core with various bits and pieces of secret of mana music weaved into it. i love listening to this in the background while doing other shit.

anyway here are some of my favs from the ACTUAL secret of mana soundtrack. i actually love all of it but let's pick these:

"fear of the heavens", the title track, ofc. the feels.

"into the thick of it", the forest theme

"mystic invasion", from a few of the mana palaces. there is a chord progression in this that always makes me think of "sorrows of the moon" by celtic frost. also watch out for them double kicks

"a bell is tolling", the ice palace theme

yeah i used to play sc2000 a lot as a kid and i remember all these tunes fondly but the sc2000 soundtrack is weird to me because of how short and underdeveloped the songs are

i guess they had some kind of idea that the game would be mostly quiet and punctuated by random incidental music here and there, which seems weird to me, but ok.

the simcity 3000 soundtrack is less nostalgic but actually really super excellent and a lot more fully realized

Beyond Shadowgate is a true work of art

wow i have no idea how i missed this game

i mean i never had a tg-16 nor did pretty much anyone else in sweden but still, i'm interested enough in retro games that i feel like i should have heard of this existing but i really haven't

gotta check it out

i forgot to mention i actually purchased this one

not because i liked it (i do) but because im an Ayloss fanboi to the max

"Ontrothon, Saga of the Ancient Glass" is a project that is based on a fantasy medieval world created by a friend and a role playing campaign we've been playing over the years. Musically it is inspired by various genres such as dungeon synth, game rpg soundtracks (older and newer), 80s sword and sorcery films, even 8 bit and synthwave."

Those sectets of mana are all great (especially that remix!)--I haven't heard some of those melodies since the last time I actually pulled out my snes and played it about 15 years ago. I love how seasonal certain areas of the game were---and I think this added a definite bit of melancholy to the game that a lot of other rpgs didn't have (except chrono trigger, final fantasy III maybe).

That's true about sim city 2000---It's interesting, I think with some of the early PC games, I probably remember the music more because I a) was not even into metal yet b) Didn't play mp3s at the same time as the game was running haha --I can't even imagine that now

I played sim city 3000 a ton too (the last good sim game, sim city 4 was not good...) also loved sim tower and sim farm :heh:
