Actually it's not a bad list... I would have added "Sultans of Swing" maybe though.

Tornado of souls. I love that solo. A great combination of technique and good feel.

Seems like a popularity contest, just like every other poll relating to guitaring out there.

Yep. I mean, those solos are pretty good. Maybe not the best but if they do it by anything other then popularity they're gonna get a lot of flack from people asking "where's _______?"

I'm not trying to be annoying, but is there actually a difference between a poll and a popularity contest?

I'm not a native English speaker, but I understand it to be a statement like:
Seems like a counting of votes, just like every other election out there.

Perhaps that was precisely the point you were trying to make in which case I just didn't 'get' it. :erk:

These kinds of lists are meaningless, and they have more to do with album sales than anything else. My list would include "Touching the Earth" by our friend James Murphy. :headbang:

I actually consider it a pretty good list too. It's got Comfortably Numb in there (Pink Floyd is my fav band and Gilmour is my fav guitarist, so I'm a bit biased here), and Eruption (pretty damn fuckin' good to finally see Van Halen on one of these top tens, instead of Lenny Kravitz or fuckin' Kurt Cobain, for crying out loud). Actually It's the most appealing list I've seen so far, when it comes to this kind of shit polls. Not that I think they have any value.

Yeah, we could name a lot (and I mean A LOT) of amazing guitar players like (among my favorites) : Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Steve Morse, Andy Larocque, Tommy Veterli, Tore Ostby, Adrian Smith, Victor Smolski, Yngwie Malmsteen, Mattias Eklundh, Marty Friedman, Patrick Rondat, Christophe Godin, Zakk Wylde, Carlos Santana, Jeff Loomis, Brian May, Alex Lifeson, Steve Howe, Steve Lukather, Allan Holdsworth, etc etc...
