I like the 1349 and the other similar "norsecore" bands, basically for the same reason many dislike them. The blastbeats, speed, the attack; to me it's all enjoyable. It's not great and certainly not the best Black metal has to offer, but it's still fun to listen to.
Thank you.
As someone else said here, I doubt that many of the people who have posted negative replies have actually taken the time out to listen to 1349. They are far from generic, I find their music quite refreshing, and in some ways, almost tribal (I speak mainly of the Hellfire album here, because I view that as 1349 finally coming into their own musical personality).
Oddly for black metal, and despite having Frost as a drummer, I find their style overall very beat-based, very percussive (hence a tribal feel).
There are not many Black Metal bands around who can boast sheer brute force as part of their style, but 1349 certainly can. It is not thoughtful Black Metal, it is pounding, rhythmic, pulsing and very very alive.
Some may laugh at my tribal description, but listen to Hellfire - you can imagine hot dark temples with burning firebrands everywhere, with disciples within worshipping a dark god.
I hope 1349's next release continues from the style of Hellfire. It is a very underrated and excellent album imo, not to mention very well suited production to correlate to the musical style.
