I'm not sure I'll enjoy Schecter for a long time

So does that make my opinion less valid? I've owned a shit ton of cheap Deans and LTDs that SLAYS many +1000USD US-made guitars.
Relax Ola, I was just razzing you a little. I certainly didn't mean your opinion was invalid. There are some real gems out there and the emergence of the Korean factories in the late 90's definitely offered some bargain quality unfortunately QC is a big issue. I'm not saying QC is universally good in the US/Germany/UK/Japan/etc. (just look at gibson) but I am asserting that the best instruments still come from the first world. I'm also saying that everyone should do they're best to at least know the conditions of the factories where they are sending their money.

Dude.. why the fuck are you asserting that (S) Korea isn't part of the 1st world?? Last I checked... they were a pretty damn rich country....

South Korea has a market economy which ranks 14th in the world by nominal GDP and 12th by purchasing power parity (PPP), identifying it as one of the G-20 major economies.

So bollocks. Korean factories are just as capable of making decent guitars as US factories. The whole premise of this fucking stupid thread is... well.. fucking stupid.

Is there a difference between a chain made guitar by underemployed islamic bastards who beat their wife after their shift and a devoted well paid worker who master his craft because of a passion, not only the money, and is proud of what he does ?

You mean as opposed to some whiskey addicted Tennessee asshole who comes home to his trailer from work, beats his wife, gives his kids a Chinese burn, and then slouches down and jacks one off into a coffee cup before drinking it??

:guh:

Maybe the reason they are moving production to other countries. Might be more expensive to let them make over there, and schecter or ltd and so on doesnt want to raise their price or loose profit... you get what you pay for. If those same productionlines moved to the US or Europe, you probably pay more then double, and no reason its any better.
Since asian countries are getting richer, maybe wait a decade orso, and all those so called crappy guitars will be made in the US or West-Europe.

You are of course right about S Korea but I didn't assert that at all. The OP's complaint was that everyone is moving the factories from South Korea to China. On an aside, the definition of First, Second and Third world doesn't hinge on how rich a country is however as a democracy S Korea is certainly First world.

At least part of the misunderstanding here is the difference between mass factories and shops with 10 luthiers. I have little doubt a boutique shop in China could produce great work too but that isn't what arrives here. Maybe we'll start to see some Indonesian and Chinese guitar companies soon instead of just US and Japanese companies seeking the cheapest labor.

edit: Actually I see what you were responding too. I just meant that Korea was an emerging (as opposed to established) market in the late 90's for musical instruments. Ultimately I agree that if it plays well and (isn't made in a sweat shop) you shouldn't get to hung up on the origin label.

If you would've added a smilie or something your post wouldn't have looked dicky :)

My Schecter C-1 Blackjack from 2004 is incredible. It's the best feeling and playing guitar I've ever touched, and it sounds amazing. Resonates perfectly fine. Tons of sustain even just playing acoustically. Its quality made me want to buy another Schecter for my next guitar. And it's sub-$1k. Its sound and feel have been routinely complimented. At this point I'm just convinced it's the best guitar ever. Almost every guitar I've picked up since feels like a piece of plywood with strings attached. It's too bad if Schecter changed.

I have a '96 Epiphone Les Paul Custom and had a 2001 Gibson Les Paul Studio. Guess which one sounded 1000 times better.
