Immortal - Pure Holocaust

Is it good?

I saw this album at a second hand store today, for a super cheap price, I thought about buying it, but didn't. So I came home, and read some reviews, and most of them seem to be good:

"Never heard anything like it before, or after. An absolute masterpiece."

Rahul Joshi, Chedsey.com"

How would this album compare to say In The Nightside Eclipse, in Atmosphere, Complexity, Wall Of Noise Factor, and Cheese content?

Is it worth my hard earned Dole money?

Hey Kush,

Yeah, it's good. It's really fast- in fact the blast beats actually made me laugh once when I was drunk because it seemed so absurd.

It's a great album. The guitar tone is really cool. I wouldn't call it my favourite black metal album... in fact not even the best Immortal, but it's good in it's own right, especially if you're in the mood for some blasting!

It's nothing like new Immortal, which I consider to be heaps better.

Give it a go though, cause you'll probably really like it.

Oh yeah, compared to 'Nightside' its a piece of crap, but then again so are most albums.

It's still very good, though.

Yeah, we're thinking of coming up in a week or so if Andrew calls me back! I left a message on his mobile... so it's anyone's guess what he'll do.

We expect to see you there!

and do you play quake 2?

We are scholars of the highest order. We do not play your 'video games'. ;)

I don't think we'll be bringing the hard drive or anything like that. We actually have precious little on our collective computers. We've only just got cable, so we're downloading heaps now.

We've got a reasonable collection of c.ds which I prefer to MP3's.

In fact we might bring a hard drive to experience some of your musical delights. And I expect you showered and shaved, unless we have a trooo night where we can run about in the Ballarat woods conducting rituals to Satan...

Or we could play Quake 2...

We quite enjoy running in the woods at night. Back when us and our old friend had parties, we'd go for a run when we were about half drunk, halfway through the night, ussually dissapearing for 3 hours or so. Lotsa fun.

And yes, bring your HD's regardless, because giving is as good as getting. Though, my HD is such a MESS. And you'll also get to see just how shit this hole really is.

Scholars shmolars, unemployed sitting in front of this thing 14 hours a day, wouldn't want it any other way. Actually, I would, because I'm out of money.

Cool. We'll bring a drive up. Is Andrew planning on calling me back or what? He's fucking elusive! It's actually Brighty's 21st this weekend at our house. It's going to rock, although last time we had a party the police were called after we went to sleep.

It was another guy's friends. They were basically bogans who didn't know when to shut up.

I'm not sure, he told me about it today, but I dunno if he has rung you. I'll let him know to ring you next time I see him, in the next day or so.

You think he is elusive, you should try ringing me! Online 12 hours a day, and mobile is out of signal range where I live. I'm unreachable. And that makes it difficult when looking for a job.

I'm sure the 12 hours a day on the internet make it difficult when looking for a job also... Are you seriously on here that long?

Actually I don't even have a mobile, but I've got an all important answering machine. Fuck. I'm getting tired now... Even the mighty Dimmu album can't keep me pumped.... yyeeesss ittttt CAAAANN!!

Right.. it's nearly 1am and I've got be at Uni by 10am tomorrow morning. I think it's time I went to bed. brightoffski piked about an hour and a half ago. Maybe his crooked spine sent him to bed.

I'll tell you about that later. It's fucking funny.

(bedtime)..

Not their best, but a worthy addition to any Immortal fan's collection. It has a rather primitive style, in comparison to their later works, but stands on its own as an excellent black metal album. You should have bought it you idiot ;)

oh and Wall of Noise factor is much higher, atmosphere... toned down... complexity, toned down, but not incredibly inferio, and the cheese is right up there :)

Pure holocaust, from the songs I've heard, is more necro in production, and as mentioned, has alots of blast beats, and is very, well, evil sounding. If the sound of the album had a color, it would definitely be black. Very good from what I've heard, though I haven't got to hear it in it entirety.

It's not like their new sutff though...

Very beautiful album, the guitar style is quite original for a "troo" band. Definitely worth hearing.

And they also rip off the "evil Darth Vader" theme in one of the last riffs!

And don't quote Rahul Joshi anymore.
