This is something I've been thinking about lately. Using a DI box for recording DI tracks for guitar and bass has never been strongly recommended to me. What are the reasons for using one. Which ones do you recommend? Passive or active?

If you don't have a Hi-Z input on your interface and connect your guitar or bass to the line input (or even worse to a mic preamp input), it will sound like shit compared to if you had a DI box in the chain.
Passive will usually color your sound more which may or may not be a good thing.
So i prefer active.
