Impulse Question....

If you were to use a dist pedal as the pre , what ones would be the best to get decent heavy tone?

Would a TS have enough gain to cut it?

Reason being im movin into a student dorm but i wana record good tone still but i dont really have much cash to part with and cant bring my half stack(duh)
I guess revalver is an option but my comp is a bit crap so i duno if it'll handle it :/

Another reason the TS7 rules - it can function as a normal TS (sounding identical to a TS9), but it also has a switch to turn it into a more traditional distortion pedal, so that'd be my vote, especially for its price!

Dude, I found a BOSS MT-2 MetalZone with an adapter that somebody left at my place a long time ago. I got the idea to just try it into ReValver using the impulse module and it sounded surprisingly decent! The MT-2 is essentially just a guitar preamp, it has a gain circuit with tone controls... that going into my 8Pre and then into MKIII = instant stereotypical death metal tone, lol. I say go for it, couldn't hurt

If I were you I'd just stick to the freeware ampsimps with impulses. You can get pretty impressive stuff done with the wagner vst (both I and II)

hmm i might just try ebay and pick up a few cheap pedals and experiment!

I would rather not use programs for tone cuz i dont think my cpu could handle much haha
I need a new comp at some point!

First, a TS isn't a distortion pedal. It's an overdrive. Second, you could try just about anything, I suppose. A while back, somebody posted clips of a 5150 through an impulse vs. a Boss MT-2 through CurveEQ and an impulse, and they sounded damn near identical.
