I think Sweden has the best bands, but Some German bands totally slay aswel... However the German bands I love have gothenburg sounds. EdGuy have the finnish powermetal thing going and I cant remember but I think Kalmah are Deutsch, and they sound like early Dark Tranquillity. Also Dew Scented hail from Germany and they totally haul ass! Ill Natured is one of the best thrash albums ever IMO. But of course Sweden has thrash bands like the Haunted and Dimension zero which answer back in a big way.
Cock and ball torture take alot of marks off of germany for me, as they sound like a bunch of horny massochists making hardcore love on top of there instruments and then selling it off as albums (Although they have some great beat downs).

Germany has the best Thrash scene with bands like Kreator, Sodom, Iron Angel, Tankard and Destruction. Sweden doesn't particularly have a Thrash scene.
Sweden used to have one of the best Death Metal scenes but it's gone rather stale. Germany has remained one of the top producers of Death Metal.
Sweden wins on Black Metal and has a very underated Black Metal scene.
Sweden has one of the worlds best Doom scenes, Germany hardly has a Doom scene.
So 2-2 but Germany won on the 2 most important genres of Metal.

Oh, also, Rammstein sucks. The have one song called "Sonne" or something. The song itself isnt bad, but i found an instrumental version of it that i enjoy a bit. Other then that, they blow. They shouldnt be the one band to represent germany in a poll, lol... moron.

Rammstein is not close to the best german metal, They are about as close as jessica simpson.
in flames is better but started sucking especially on soundtrack to your escape WORST ALBUM EVER!

Erm @ Blakk Pyrate: have you ever heard Reroute To Remain? That IS the worst IF album ever by a mile...it sucks so much.
As for the original topic...i go for Sweden. Simply because i like the music comming out of there more than what comes out of Germany. So Rammstein were not the best choice to represent the country but whoever was metioned would piss off someone. It was simply an example.
