in this thread I will make grand proclaimations about music that are inarguable

this is MY thread bitch, back off.

NUMBER SEVEN:

chops alone do not make a band good. ever. nor are they required for a band to be good. songwriting/composition is a million times more important.
My immediate reaction was to write, "Well, that's kind of a no-brainer isn't it?" But then I remembered all of the prog and metal reviews I've read and what people say about bands, and, yeah, it still needs saying. One of my hallmates first year of college used to tell me that AC/DC sucked because their songs were so easy to play. Yeah. He listened to ALOT of Phish. Damn psuedo-hippies.

NUMBER EIGHT:

AC/DC songs are NOT that easy to play. they may be easy to FAKE, but the syncopation and tightness of their rhythm section is something to be admired. Listen to the recording of them playing on the BBC from the Bonfire box set and hear how tight they are.

same goes for The Ramones. Sure, you may be hitting the same notes, but chances are you are totally not getting the same strum that they perfected. Another band that's insanely tight that almost never gets their props in that dept.

of course the drum parts are kind of a different story, but we're focusing on guitar here.

yeah exactly! dudes do a whole lot of weird triplet stuff.

(of course the difficulty of the parts is still not what makes them so good, but rather the style and flavah)

I'd actually go as far to say DEP is one of my five favorite bands going. Not really for the technicality of the music (I think there are plenty of bands who best them), but I just really like the song writing! I mean, c'mon! 43% Burnt is like the most epic 4 minute song ever!
