I bought a compilation album from Relapse and I heard Sempiternal Pandemonium by Incantation and I was impressed. Tell me more about the band or give me more similar bands to check out. Thanks.

Incantation's older stuff is good, their more recent stuff is pretty boring IMO......and yes Immolation are far superior

Well.. lookin at my signature you'll get the idea. 
Their earlier stuff (Onward To Golgotha-more old school sounding, Mortal Throne of Nazarene) was more daaaark, sick, heeeeeavvy, thhhhick, bassy, almost suffocating with the looooowest damn vocals you'll ever hear - its just insane. But it might be too much for you if you know what I mean, not everyone digs this kinda music.
Then they had a major line up change and the sound changed pretty drastically (even though the 'Incantation' sound was still there thanks to the guitarist and founder of the band still in it). The music got more thrashier, technical and raw (Diabolical Conquest)..got a more polished and tight on 'Infernal Storm' and more bassy, dark and raw again on 'Blasphemy'.
Its all good my friend, can go wrong with it if you like some dark death metal which is not done thousand times over. Their earlier stuff is great but I dont think everyone would dig it, so I would recommend you get 'Diabolical Conquest' first.. its beautiful.

i bought an incantation CD the other day actually, out of the used bin. i had never heard them before but the cover art looked cool. i dont remember what it was called, it wasnt on relapse and the date was, i believe, 2002.
but anyway...i didnt like it at all. for some reason i expected it to sound like naglfar or something.

Check out Fleshcrawl's Descend into the Absurd. That CD sounds like Incantation, but better IMO. None of their other CDs sound like that though, so that is the only CD of theirs you would get if you want something like Incantation.MURAI said:

Morpheus Descends, and Disciples Of Mockery are good places to start if you want Incantation sound-alikes. But DOM has Greg Pilliard, so it's not that much of a clone, considering he was on the best two Incanatation albums.

I agree with a previous poster, don't bother. If you think Blasphemy is boring, there are others in Incantation's diskography that will put you in a coma. Don't get me wrong, Incantation is one of my favorite death metal bands, but I have to be fair and say that they have also put out some boring albums. I must say, however, that Blasphemy is not one of them!!!
