Intentional Aliasing distortion

For many years I have been trying to find a distortion that mimics the sounds of aliasing of audio. No amount of googling has ever helped me so I figured I would ask. The only thing that I can think of that has this particular effect is a few songs of Linkin Park's first two albums. I cannot find a distortion that recreates this effects. Any recommendations are welcome.

have you tried any bit crush/sample reducing plugins and driving them? sometimes with an analogue style filter in the chain too can be cool

There was one free VST that I found but it wasn't tat versatile and it didn't sound very good. I have debated making a hardware distortion unit but all commercially available analog to digital converters have built in aliasing filters that get rid of that type of distortion. I haven't been able to find bit crushing pedals that have that sounds I am looking for.
