Is a 6505 REALLY the same exact thing as a 5150

I've heard sooo many people say that they're the same, and I've heard sooo many people say they're slightly different. If they're different, what are their differences, internally?

I've had the honor of cranking both in our rehearsal room, and I did hear a small difference, but I'm interested in the internals of the amps. What do you guys think?

same design and whatnot, but it looks some investigation has shown a few internal components to slightly differ - most likely due to attempts at cost savings for parts such as caps, resistors, etc. over the years

in the end, there's probably as much tonal difference between 2 original 5150's as there is between a 5150 and 6505

Yup, this is the most accurate answer.

A few small components have been changed, but you probably wouldn't be able to hear much of a difference, if any.

5150 has more boom

Not true, the only difference is now the 6505 ships with Rubys which have a bottom end which is less tight then the old Sovteks that the 5150 used to ship with.

The 6505 and the 5150 are IDENTICAL. Ask Hartley Peavey, he has stated this 1000000x. The only reason for the "name change" is cause EVH owns the 5150 trademark.

The reason for the switch to RUBY Tubes vs Sovtek is price. The Ruby is about $10 cheaper.
