Is there not really "Progressive Power Metal" to be found. Like... Power Metal melodies, vocals, and guitar tone... but with a more intelligent approach to time signatures and more frequent tempo changes and stuff. Stratovarius/Primal Fear meets Rush?!

Dear God, both Pagands Mind-(amazing guitar tone) and Pyramaze are musts...

Thankyou very much! Souls in Pain has quite the awesome intro haha. I will definitely check both of these out more at some point :) Are there many more like them or are they in sort of a small niche?

Personally, I think it is a chosen few. There are so many power metal bands done over and again and again...but only a few really do it for me. I guess I'm very select and hard to please. Though, open to whatever makes the fur rise. e.g. I'm not a huge folk progressive metal fan and its a bit off topic...but the band TYR is one of my overall favorites...they even top some of my fave power metal bands.

as far as other power metal bands...

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for but
Fates Warning

Adramelch

Tarantula

This all seems pretty good. Shame the Adramelch songs aren't produced better or I'd probably like it. So far that Anubis song is probably my favourite of the lot... then Souls In Pain and Valley Of The Dolls. Valley Of The Dolls probably comes closest to what I was initially thinking about though.

Cheers guys. I'll search out these bands :D

In the vein of Fates Warning and Adramelch...

Dunno if you're familiar with Ark's Burn The Sun but this is my favourite Prog Power Metal album. It's power prog but touches on many other genres also.

Wow for some reason I stopped getting email notifications for this thread. There's tonnes of stuff there to get through, thanks guys! Will definitely check out within the next week or two :) By the way I loved Pagan's Mind so much that I bought Infinity Divine off eBay :)

EDIT: That "Burn The Sun" song is fucking awesome. More rock than power metal I would've said though. Regardless, I will give the album a shot ;)

Pagans Mind- Infinity Divine is good...but I think the releases that followed are even better. Gods Equation is amazing. Also, a new CD is expected for release very soon.

I like Symphony X a lot. Been out of the loop with "new" music (er, new to me) for a while but Symphony X has been in my rotation for a few years. I'll definitely check these bands out too.

I liked Fates Warning a bit back in the day but Idk, it always struck me as a little slow. Symphony X though, mixes it up a bit more to keep me interested.
